England captain Leah Williamson said the Lionesses want to wear the pro-LGBTQ+ OneLove armband at the women’s World Cup in July. However, England’s men’s team, along with teams from several other European nations, were not permitted to wear the OneLove armband at the recent World Cup in Qatar amid threats from FIFA of players getting yellow cards. Williamson said the Lionesses are dead set on showing their support and continue to wear the armband, especially after their Euro 2022 victory. Census: Bisexual and pansexual figures match gay population

New census figures show there are as many bisexual and pansexual people as there are gay and lesbian people in England and WalesData collected in the 2021 census, and released on Friday (6 January) by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), shows that lesbian, gay and bisexual people make up around 3.2 per cent of the overall population. Of those, 1.54 per cent are gay or lesbian, while 1.28 per cent identified themselves as bisexual. When combined, bisexual and pansexual people make up 1.51 per cent of the population in England and Wales. “It’s not a surprise, but it’s absolutely great to have it officially confirmed by the census because it is indeed a large part of the LGBT community which is erased,” he tells PinkNews. The statistics also showed that the trans community makes up around 0.5 per cent of the overall population.

Simon Dunn death: Gay rugby player’s legacy of activism

Simon Dunn, Australia’s first openly gay bobsledder, has been described as an “impassioned optimist” who worked tirelessly for charity, after he died at the age of 35. The athlete was known for taking part in both bobsled and playing rugby, as well as his work for charitable organisations, including the Terrence Higgins Trust. In an article for Gay Times, Dunn claimed he would continue championing all-gay teams “until I can comfortably say homophobia in sport is all but a distant memory”.
