All of these burdens are not new in the Nigeria political system. How do you create a leader out of the political system that did not evolve from your socio-political and historical experience? I heard this during the campaigns that people should not vote based on ethnicity, religion but by competence. In Nigeria, people will still vote based on ethnicity and religions because those are the things pushed to us by the political elite. Nigerians are mostly a religious people, how can religious leaders contribute positively to Nigeria’s political system?

Can Moffi, Onuachu get off the mark?

Nigerian strikers Paul Onuachu and Terem Moffi are both stuck in a reversal of fortunes in the second half of the 2022/23 season after the duo completed January transfers to different clubs and are yet to find the back of the net for their new employers. For Moffi, he stayed in the Ligue 1 making a loan move from Lorient to Nice with an obligation to buy at the end of the season. Both strikers have had similar individual experiences for their new clubs but very different team results. Moffi and Onuachu have both played two games for their current clubs but while Onuachu came off the bench on his debut which ended in a 3-0 loss to Brentford and started the second, a 2-1 Wolves defeat before being substituted, Moffi started both games; their 3-1 win against Marseille and was on the pitch for the full 90 minutes in their 3-0 triumph over Ajaccio. Moffi on the other hand will also be keen to score when his side faces off against in-form striker Balogun and his Reims team on Saturday (today) at the Allianz Riviera.

Cash crunch: Parties struggle to mobilise polling agents, seek volunteers

Political parties on Thursday admitted that they had difficulties sourcing cash that would be used to pay their polling agents during Saturday’s elections. They added that some of their agents would not be paid as they would work as volunteers. I know the country is difficult at the moment and that the masses are suffering as a result of the cash squeeze policy. The APC chairman however said that the welfare of their polling agents was important, hence, their plans to make transfers to the agents. In Ekiti State, political parties said that their agents for the elections were committed members ready for the assignment whether money was made available or not.

#NigeriaElections2023: Senior lawyers condemn Buhari’s open display of ballot paper

Some lawyers on Saturday faulted the open display of ballot papers by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) and the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, after casting their votes for their preferred candidates. He displayed the ballot paper to show he voted for his party; the All Progressives Congress’ presidential candidate. Also, Ortom was said to have openly displayed his ballot paper to show that he cast his vote for the Labour Party presidential candidate. One of the lawyers, Mr Babatunde Fashanu, SAN, said that the President’s act was wrong because the exercise was secret balloting. “So what the President and the governor did is uncalled for and it is leading by bad example.
