Chris Hipkins is the sole nominee to become the Labour Party Leader, Labour Whip Duncan Webb announced on Saturday, reported New Zealand's public broadcaster, RNZ. "The Labour Party caucus will meet at 1 pm on Sunday to endorse the nomination and confirm Chris Hipkins as Party Leader," Duncan Webb saidWho is Chris Hipkins? Hipkins was first elected to parliament in 2008 and was appointed minister for Covid-19 in November 2020. Unlike Ardern however, Hipkins is known as a more cutthroat politician, particularly in the debating chamber. It also gives the government the power to hold a "summary enquiry" to prevent an organization from using foreign funds. Additionally, Indian nonprofits who served as lead implementers on a given project could no longer create sub-grant relationships with other nonprofits using foreign funding. • Under the original Act, nonprofits receiving foreign funding under FCRA needed to create a bank account at any government-approved bank. Under the 202 amended FCRA, administrative expenses are now capped at 20% of foreign funds received.

Fish mass die-offs are becoming increasingly common due to climate change: Study

Representative image | FileWashington: Using data collected from more than 500 previous fish die-offs from lakes across Wisconsin and Michigan, researchers are using modeling to predict the increasing frequency of mass die-offs as a result of climate change. The research:The paper, "Climate warming amplifies the frequency of fish mass mortality events across the north temperate lakes," compiled 526 documented cases of fish die-offs that occurred across Minnesota and Wisconsin lakes between 2003 and 2013. Moreover, their models that used either air or water temperature provided similar results, which is important because air temperature data is more widely available than water temperature data across the world. Siepielski added, "This work is important because it demonstrates the feasibility of using readily obtainable data to anticipate fish die-offs." "The large scale of the project, using thousands of lakes and over a million air and temperature data points, is particularly impressive," Siepielski added.

ISRO aims to expand India's homegrown NaVIC satellite navigation system to global coverage

The Navigation with Indian Constellation (NaVIC) uses seven satellites to provide real-time positioning and timing services in India and an area extending up to 1,500 km from the country's borders. The new satellites will have L-1, L-5 and S Band," ISRO Chairman S Somanath told Press Trust of India. Somanath was speaking on the sidelines of the India Space Congress organised by the SatCom Industry Association. He said the NaVIC system was not in a "full-fledged operational regime" as some of its seven satellites have stopped working. In a bid to spur satellite manufacturing in India, ISRO is also keen to become an anchor customer for satellites in the country.

Bombay HC quashes Yes Bank Administrator's decision to write off Additional Tier 1 (AT-1) bonds |Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Friday quashed a decision taken by the Yes Bank Administrator on March 14, 2020 to write off Additional Tier 1 (AT-1) bonds noting the Administrator did not have the authority to take such a decision. Yes Bank had written off AT-1 bonds worth Rs 8,415 crore as part of the bailout in March 2020. The court in its judgment said the Final Reconstruction Scheme of Yes Bank issued by the Reserve Bank of India did not engulf within its fold writing down/off the AT-1 bonds. It deleted the clause of writing down of AT-1 bonds," the HC said. "The Administrator could not have taken such a policy decision of writing down the AT-1 bonds.
