Transmission of the bird flu virus to humans can occur through close contact with infected birds or dead animals. In America, since last year, only 2 cases of people affected by bird flu have been reported, who had been in close contact with birds. Earlier this month, the World Health Organization (WHO) deemed the risk of a bird flu pandemic in humans to be “low”. Symptoms of bird flu in humans are fever, cough, sore throat and muscle aches; pneumonia, among others. Much can be done to slow the spread of bird flu.
