Welsh island named first dark sky sanctuary in Europe

Ynys Enlli (Bardsey Island), north Wales has today received International Dark Sky Sanctuary certification by the International Dark Skies Association (IDA). International Dark Sky Sanctuaries are typically situated in a very remote location with few nearby threats to the quality of its dark night skies. Sian Stacey, Chair of the Bardsey Island Trust said: “We are delighted to announce the news of Ynys Enlli’s new status as International Dark Sky Sanctuary (IDSS) today. Mari Huws is one of the Wardens on Ynys Enlli and has been part of the certification process. Hosepipe ban finally gets lifted in Pembrokeshire

The reminder comes as the company confirms it is lifting the Temporary Use Ban (more commonly known as a ‘hosepipe ban’) that has been in place since 19 August for its customers served by Llys-y-Frân Reservoir near Haverfordwest. Customers across Pembrokeshire and some adjoining parts of Carmarthenshire haven’t been able to use a hosepipe after the reservoir fell into drought. This is particularly true of reservoirs in the south east of Wales where levels at some reservoirs are continuing to drop. With no significant rain in the forecast, reservoirs need a bit of extra help to make sure they refill ready for next summer. This is particularly important with the effects of climate change being reported as being linked to increasing the likelihood of droughts in future.

As huge pancake fans, we were delighted to be invited to try out Cosy Club’s limited edition pancake menu and indulge in some sweet-tooth goodness. We ordered vanilla ice cream, strawberry jam, and whipped cream. Topped with whipped cream that’s smooth and quite literally melts in your mouth, these are some of the best pancakes we’ve had. The limited-edition Pancake Day menu runs until Tuesday, 21 February 2023.
