University staff and NHS physiotherapists will go out on strike today (Thursday) in an outbreak of industrial action continuing to sweep the country. The CSP said that apart from one 45-minute meeting last month, the Westminster government refused to discuss the pay dispute. The Scottish government also made an improved offer that CSP members accepted. The UCU expects 2.5 million students to be affected by its strike action over the next two months but the National Union of Students is backing the action. But UCU general secretary Jo Grady has described the 5% pay offer for many university staff as a “huge real-terms pay cut” that would leave members worse off.

Co-op makes big change to 150 lines of fresh produce

Best before dates on fresh fruit and veg are set to ‘expire’ as Co-op axes the dates from more than 150 lines of fresh produce to help customers cut food waste in the home and save money, the convenience retailer has confirmed. With households accounting for around 70% of UK food waste, data also shows that date codes can drive consumer behaviour on deciding when to dispose of fresh produce. So, alongside the removal of best before dates, Co-op is also introducing on-pack guidance to highlight the optimum storage conditions to prolong product life. We know from our research that removing the date labels on fruit and veg will help people throw less good food in the bin. Last Spring (2022) Co-op announced it would scrap ‘use-by’ dates from all of its own-brand yoghurts, replacing them with best-before dates.

Beyoncé will return to the road for the first time since 2018 on her Renaissance World Tour. Announced on Tuesday, the worldwide trek comes in support of her Album of the Year-nominated 2022 release, Renaissance. Beyoncé will spend May and June touring Europe before beginning a North American leg on July 7th in Toronto. The two-day event in Columbus, OH marked the first installment of the Dayton-bred quartet’s wintertime gathering since 2020. On the second and final night of Winter Werk Out 2023, The Werks made sure to earmark enough time for a climactic encore.
