Mr Wallace, asked whether he could envisage the war between Ukraine and Russia going on for a further 12 months, told the radio station: “I think we will. Shrewsbury health hub: Doctor left practice due to 'unsafe' workload, GP says

The proposed Shrewsbury Health and Wellbeing Hub would involve closing down six surgeries in the town and moving them into one building. “I completely understand reservations about the idea of changing the fundamental model of how General Practice has always been delivered," she said. “We are trying to provide this greater breadth and volume of care with dwindling numbers of GPs, because both recruitment and retention of doctors in General Practice is decreasing year on year. She said that the practice chose to be part of the health hub scheme, and that it "wasn't forced" on its GPs. Several members of the team were working in temperatures of up to 40 degrees in the heatwave this summer.

One killed in explosion at flats in Jersey after residents report gas smell

St Helier explosionOne person has died and “around a dozen” are missing following an explosion and fire at a block of flats in Jersey after residents reported smelling gas. Robin Smith, chief officer of States of Jersey Police, told a press conference the fire service had been called to the area the night before after residents reported smelling gas. Following the explosion this morning at Haut du Mont, Pier Road a number of residents are still missing. Gas supplier Island Energy said it was working with the fire service to “understand exactly what has happened”. Emergency services have told Jersey residents to avoid using A&E apart from in an emergency, and police have advised people to avoid the area of the blast, which has been cordoned off.

Frog that travelled 4,000 miles on bananas among strangest RSPCA rescues of 2022

A frog that travelled more than 4,000 miles on a bunch of bananas and a hedgehog extracted from a drainpipe with barbecue tongs were among the animals rescued from the trickiest spots in 2022. Among the first to be rescued in 2022 was Nacho, a six-month-old seal pup who appeared next to a riverbank by the Old Lock & Weir Inn in Keynsham, Bristol, on January 2. Just two days later, on January 4, a fellow seal pup was found on a cliff in Weybourne, Norfolk, 50ft from the beach, next to a brick wartime pillbox. In August, RSPCA rescuers used barbecue tongs to pull a hedgehog free from an open drain in Hull, East Yorkshire. Rescuer Jonny Wood said the frog was in good condition despite its long journey when he collected it.

They turned to JDP for expert advice on initial designs, feasibility studies and securing planning, with the architect working with Hayward Construction to turn the dream into a reality. Matt Spinks, director, added: “Our Grand Designs and work with the Paragraph 70 house was already provoking a lot of conversation, but the Channel 4 show really catapulted us into the limelight.

More legal firms in Shropshire forced to closed after regulators step in

All the firms have the same note on their websites saying they have been closed by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. Gordons LLP of New Augustus Street, Bradford, has been appointed by the Solicitor's Regulation Authority as its intervention agent to help with the closure of these firms. A spokesman for Gordons LLP said: "MLL Ltd, BPL Solicitors Ltd, Beaumont ABS Ltd and Atray Ltd were closed by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (‘SRA’) on December 14 2022. "Separately Knowles Benning LLP and Knight Polson Limited were closed by the SRA on December 19 2022. We understand that QS Legal Ltd acquired the wills stored by all of the firms other than Knight Polson before the intervention.

Revellers celebrate New Year’s Eve across UK with fun and fireworks

Fireworks light up the sky over the London Eye and the Elizabeth Tower (Big Ben) in central London during the New Year celebrationsThe UK has ushered in 2023 with revellers across the country celebrating New Year’s Eve. Big Ben bonged in England’s capital as a crowd of more than 100,000 people gathered along the Thames Embankment in central London to watch 12,000 fireworks streak across the sky. Drones spelled out a positive message during the show, welcoming in “2023 with love from London” as fireworks exploded behind them. Officers have worked with charity Safer Spaces to build a place in Duncannon Street, central London, for women and girls to go should they feel unsafe. Auckland followed an hour later where huge crowds gathered below the Sky Tower for a countdown that ended in fireworks.

‘National treasures’ Mo Farah and Lenny Henry honoured at Ethnicity Awards

TV personality Alison Hammond (Ian West/PA)The founder of the Ethnicity Awards, Sarah Garrett, said it has been a “very poignant year” for the event. “All of the winners are incredibly deserving and it has been wonderful to recognise some of our true national treasures like Sir Mo Farah, Sir Lenny Henry, Alison Hammond and Dina Asher-Smith.”The shooting of Mr Kaba, 24, is being investigated by the Independent Office for Police Conduct and the Metropolitan Police marksman who shot him has been suspended from duty. The Ethnicity Awards also honoured Tolu Falade, Rachel Henry, Paul Plewman, Jamal Edwards, Hau-Yu Tam and Ade Rawcliffe for their inspirational work along with workplaces Nationwide Building Society and Lloyds Banking Group.
