At a meeting on “Gross Human Rights Violations Due To The Aggression Against Ukraine” organized by the Kyiv government, Zelenska also pointed to ill-treated emaciated Ukrainian prisoners of war, and the thousands of children Russia has taken from Ukraine and the reported adoption of some of them by Russian families. “We are fighting for human rights,” she said, speaking virtually. International pressure has been mounting for a special tribunal to be established to prosecute the crime of aggression. But it does not have jurisdiction to prosecute Russia’s leaders for aggression. “There can never be peace in a world where crime and brute force prevails over justice.”

Florida voter has election fraud charges touted by DeSantis dismissed

A Florida man had his election fraud charges dismissed on Friday, making him the first of 20 people who Gov. Ron DeSantis announced had been charged with voter fraud in August, to beat his case. DeSantis said at the time that they were the "opening salvo" by Florida's newly funded Office of Election Crimes and Security to crack down on voter fraud. When the charges were announced on Aug. 18, DeSantis said at a press conference that local prosecutors had been "loath" to take up election fraud cases. But local election officials sent all 20 voter cards to the arrested voters, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Astros to start Cristian Javier in ALCS Game 3 vs. YankeesHouston Astros right-hander Lance McCullers Jr. has been pushed back a day and will start Game 4 after sustaining a small cut on his throwing elbow from a thrown champagne bottle on Saturday. Up 2-0 in the best-of-seven American League Championship Series, Houston will start Cristian Javier in Game 3 at the New York Yankees on Saturday and McCullers will start Game 4 Sunday night. Javier pitched 1 1/3 innings of relief in Houston's 8-7 Game 1 win in the ALDS but hasn't started since an Oct. 1 win over Tampa Bay. McCullers ended Game 7 of the 2017 ALCS by throwing 24 consecutive curveballs to retire the Yankees' final five batters in order. The Yankees had already tabbed Cole as the starter for Game 3 and Nestor Cortes for Game 4.

GM: Panthers not tanking despite Christian McCaffrey tradeCHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Carolina Panthers general manager Scott Fitterer insists the decision to trade running back Christian McCaffrey to the San Francisco 49ers was not about tanking the rest of the season to get the top pick of the 2023 draft. Prior to this week, the Panthers had only four draft picks in 2023 and five in 2024. "It provides a lot of options with that amount of picks," said Fitterer, whose Panthers would have the top pick if the season ended today. A league source close to the situation told ESPN.com the Panthers initially were looking for a couple of first-round draft picks, then narrowed it to one. Fitterer said McCaffrey wanted to address the team Friday, but didn't have time because of an early-morning flight to San Francisco.

Voters with literacy issues face challenges as midterm elections near

As the midterm elections near, election rights advocates have sounded the alarm about what they say are serious cases of voter intimidation and restrictions against voters who have trouble reading their ballot. They're at the polls on Election Day saying like, "Hey, I'll read your ballot to you if you want?" Also, poll workers are sometimes allowed to help you read your ballot if you struggle. Georgia law only allows for voters to actually receive assistance if they are disabled or cannot read English. About 50 years ago, Southern states forced literacy tests on voters to keep Black people out of the polls.

Maryland will review about 100 in-custody police death cases for possible signs of bias

Maryland will review about 100 autopsies of people who died in police custody in response to concerns over the former state medical examiner's alleged pattern of "pro law-enforcement" bias during his leadership, the state's attorney general announced. Rather, Fowler cited Floyd's "pre-existing medical condition," drug use and emissions from the squad car's tailpipe as possible causes of death. Fowler wrote in a statement to ABC News on Friday that he "look[s] forward" to examining the proposed design and methodology for the audit. US says Russia's 'dirty bomb' claims pretext for escalation in Ukraine

Over the weekend, in an unprecedented series of phone calls to senior defense officials in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Turkey, senior Russian defense officials repeatedly claimed that Ukraine was possibly preparing to use a dirty bomb. "Our countries made clear that we all reject Russia’s transparently false allegations that Ukraine is preparing to use a dirty bomb on its own territory," said the statement. Meanwhile in Moscow, the Russian government continued to say that Ukraine was preparing to use a dirty bomb. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova claimed that Russia was in possession of information alleging that Ukraine was preparing dirty bombs at locations in Kyiv and central Ukraine. Earlier, the Russian defense ministry had published a map indicating that Ukraine was preparing a dirty bomb at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant that has seen constant shelling for weeks.
