A new blueprint for future tourism in Torbay sets out strategies to produce 1,500 new jobs on the English Riviera by 2030. The new Destination Management Plan sees the bay targeting new markets and concentrating on its “brilliant basics” as it tries to cement a place as the UK’s premier tourist destination. Older people wanting heritage, culture and good food are another target market, along with people travelling to the bay for corporate events and conferences. In addition to the 1,500 new jobs, an extra £75m of tourist spending could be attracted by the same date. “It is time to refresh and reposition the English Riviera as the UK’s premier holiday resort of the future.

As part of a wider picture which includes the seafront and Station Square, Torbay Road has been pedestrianised. The trial should have taken place over the busy summer months, but Torbay Council was unable to make it happen then.
