Lindsey Strand-Polyak plays a viola made in about 1720 in England with a bow like those played in the early 19th century. The Salish Sea Early Music Festival, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, is proud to be an affiliate organization of Early Music America, which develops, strengthens, and celebrates early music and historically informed performance in North America. SSEMF has presented countless first performances in modern times of period instrument renditions of early works.

On Monday afternoon, representatives of UFCW International met with nearly 100 local UFCW chapters on Zoom to discuss the merger and their collective response to it. Workers told Reuters that Kroger has not yet held conversations with the union to discuss the merger. Albertsons reached out to the union, offering to “keep lines of communication open,” Mark Federici, president of UFCW local 400, told Reuters.

Wave FC Collects Major NWSL Awards –Stoney As Coach of Year, Girma As Rookie, Defender of Year

San Diego Wave courtesy photoTheir season may be over, but the honors continue to flow in for the San Diego Wave FC. Head coach Casey Stoney has been named Coach of the Year by the National Women’s Soccer League, while centerback Naomi Girma received two awards – Rookie of the Year and Defender of the Year. Wave FC featured one of the league’s top-ranked defenses, allowing just 21 goals in 22 matches, and outscoring opponents 32-20. A former player and captain for the English National Team, Stoney joined the NWSL as San Diego’s first head coach in 2021. OL Reign head coach Laura Harvey finished second in the voting, while Kansas City Current head coach Matt Potter came in third.

New Annual Forum on the Night-Time Economy Announced

The Arts Council has announced a Night-Time Economy Forum, which will take place on the afternoon of Tuesday 17 January in the National Gallery of Ireland in Dublin. The setting up of an annual public forum was one of the recommendations of the report of the Night-Time Economy Taskforce that was published in September 2021. The event will bring together a range of speakers on the arts and the night-time economy and aims to encourage new partnerships, new thinking and steps to support the role of the arts in creating a vibrant night-time economy. Kitt will also chair the first panel discussion, which is titled ‘The Opportunities for Innovation and the Night-time Economy’. I’m looking forward to seeing new and innovative solutions to some of the challenges facing the Night-time Economy and some new and interesting partnerships coming out of this event.
