Her research shows there are hundreds of jobs listed for graduates where an additional language is required. Study observes Luttinger liquid behavior in a quasi-2D system

"We showed that Luttinger liquid physics, which was previously considered as prototype 1D behavior, can be extended to quasi-2D systems," Yang and Chen said. Their work could thus soon inspire new studies exploring Luttinger liquid behavior and other non-Fermi liquid states in other materials. Secondly, knowing the common Luttinger liquid behavior in different materials, their similarities and differences will help unveil the physics laws underneath.

TESS detects new 'hot Jupiter' exoplanet orbiting a rapidly rotating star

Using NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS), an international team of astronomers has detected a new "hot Jupiter" exoplanet. The newfound alien world, estimated to be nearly three times as massive as Jupiter, orbits a rapidly rotating star known as TOI-778. TOI-778 b orbits its host every 4.63 days, at a distance of about 0.06 AU from it. The planet's equilibrium temperature was estimated to be some 1,561 K.Based on the parameters of TOI-778 b, the astronomers classified it as a "hot Jupiter" exoplanet. The parent star TOI-778 is a fast rotator—with rotational velocity at a level of nearly 40 km/s.

Meteorites and simple metals as catalysts for metabolic pathways at the origin of life

Credit: University of StrasbourgResearchers from the University of Strasbourg have demonstrated that hydrogen gas and simple metals or meteorites cause parts of the reverse Krebs cycle to occur without enzymes. The results of this study support the hypothesis that naturally occurring metals acted as catalysts for the first protometabolic reactions. In this context, the focus of research is on ancient metabolic networks that were probably present in the earliest life, such the reverse Krebs cycle. In the future, the researchers are looking to see whether meteorites or metals could help more complex reaction networks to emerge. Hurricane Roslyn hits Mexico's Pacific coast

Hurricane Roslyn made landfall on the west coast of Mexico on Sunday as a powerful Category 3 storm, the US National Hurricane Center said, as communities sheltered from damaging winds, a dangerous storm surge and flash flooding. Authorities issued hurricane warnings for portions of the Pacific coast states of Jalisco, Nayarit, Sinaloa and Las Islas Marias, some 60 miles offshore. Hurricane Roslyn was downgraded to a Category 3 storm before it made landfall on Mexico's Pacific coast. Australian study finds teachers want respect

Seven in ten teachers don't feel respected by the Australian public and these feelings are more likely to impact teachers as their careers progress.
