Scottish sports fans face a big decision this weekend as both the Old Firm and Six Nations matches kick off at 3pm on Sunday, February 26. The Six Nations fixture between Gregor Townsend's men and France will also kick off at 3pm at the Stade de France in Paris. Alternatively, fans can watch the Scottish League Cup final on either Rangers TV or Celtic TV – both services will also require a subscription. Scottish Government spending plans could result in a "fundamental reduction" in policing, MSPs have been warned, with police chiefs claiming they could be forced to make savings of up to £300 million over the next few years. A new paper, prepared for Holyrood's Criminal Justice Committee, warns that "the outlook is extremely challenging and concerning". Both Chief Constable Iain Livingstone and SPA chair Martyn Evans have "expressed their concern at the service delivery implications" of the resource spending review. "The implications for community policing; operational effectiveness, our ability to support major events, and to protect people from existing and emerging threats are significant." We have already made difficult choices to support pay offers in 2022-23 and rightly so, as our police workforce deserve this.

The SNP has been blasted for under-funding councils after a bombshell leaked dossier predicted that almost 6,000 jobs will be lost at Scots councils in the next few years. Opposition parties accused the Scottish Government of "neglecting" local authorities leading to tough decisions needing to be made about jobs. COSLA surveyed councils on funding pressures in the leaked paper and asked them what it would mean for them. Eighteen councils predicted job losses, while nine local authorities expected a headcount reduction of 5,872 by 2026.
