The Masked Singer’s elusive rhino has been revealed as Busted’s Charlie Simpson, as he was crowned the winner on Saturday’s finale. Rhino was the first to perform solo on Saturday, delivering a rendition of Before You Go by Lewis Capaldi while dressed as a cowboy. The Busted star admitted he did not expect to win the show and just tried to “remember the lyrics and have fun”. 🦏 🎭#MaskedSingerUK pic.twitter.com/Nx1W6SJ5nO — #MaskedSingerUK (@MaskedSingerUK) February 18, 2023Judge Rita Ora said Rhino had her “favourite voice in the whole wide world” before guessing it could be Busted’s Charlie Simpson behind the mask, with Davina McCall in agreement. ITVKaiser Chiefs singer Ricky Wilson was revealed as Phoenix, and placed second, followed by All Saints’ singer Natalie Appleton.

St Johnstone beat ten-men Hibs as Scottish football enters 'VAR-era'

St Johnstone have come from behind to beat ten-man Hibernian 2-1 at Easter Road as VAR made its debut in the Scottish Premiership. Hibs started the game well and showed their intent by attacking St Johnstone from the off with a series of chances created and Martin Boyle booked for diving. The home side took the lead on the half-hour mark when Ukrainian striker Mykola Kukharevych leaped highest to head the ball the St Johnstone keeper Remi Matthews and make it 1-0. For all their possession the home side still couldn’t find that killer second goal and they grew increasingly frustrated as a result. And St Johnstone equalised soon after when Nicky Clark headed past David Marshall from a corner as the game was turned on its head.

Coal power plants on standby as blackout prevention scheme to go live

Three coal power plants are on standby as the scheme designed to prevent blackouts prepares to go live for the first time. British Gas, Octopus Energy, E.ON Next and OVO among others have agreed to meet the demand with customers across Scotland, England and Wales asked to help reduce energy use. We have instructed coal-fired power units to be available to increase electricity supplies should it be needed tomorrow evening. This does not mean electricity supplies are at risk and people should not be worried. Approved providers include Octopus Energy, Scottish (British) Gas, E.ON Next, Shell Energy Retail and 20 others.

The club has decided to give Rangers three stands for Saturday’s match at McDiarmid Park, with St Johnstone fans restricted to the Main Stand. The move has sparked uproar, with fans furious at both the decision to give Rangers a large allocation and ticket prices. Wojciech Szczesny was Poland’s hero with a crucial penalty save as they kept their hopes of World Cup progress alive with a 2-0 win over Saudi Arabia. The final stage of the Gender Recognition Reform Bill's progress through Parliament starts tomorrow! “The Gender Recognition Reform Bill simplifies the process by which a trans person can obtain a Gender Recognition Certificate, which many find intrusive, medicalised and bureaucratic,” she said. “MSPs need to work together to protect human rights across the board and deliver a workable de-medicalised gender recognition process.”

Nicola Sturgeon urges UK Government to resolve ongoing rail dispute

Nicola Sturgeon has urged the UK Government to resolve the ongoing railways dispute amid warnings that passengers in Scotland could face severe disruption to services. RMT members at Network Rail are set to take action from 6pm on Christmas Eve until 6am on December 27. Network Rail is the arms-length public body of the UK Department for Transport and has responsibility for the maintenance of rail infrastructure. NEW: Today we have released a joint statement with @ScotGovFM, calling for immediate action to end the UK rail dispute. Scotland’s First Minister has said that the repercussions of the ongoing rail dispute was having a “major impact” over the festive period.

British Gas suspends breaking into homes to fit pre-payment meters

British Gas has announced it will stop applying for court warrants to enter customers’ homes and fit prepayment meters following reports they had been forced on “vulnerable” customers. Energy companies can obtain court warrants which give them legal rights to enter people’s homes and fit prepayment meters if customers have not paid their bills. “Having recently reviewed our internal processes to support our prepayment customers as well as creating a new £10m fund to support those prepayment customers who need help the most, I am extremely disappointed that this has occurred. It followed business secretary Grant Shapps’ demand that energy suppliers stop forcing financially-stretched households to switch to pre-payment meters. Kaitlyn Easson: Search for missing 11-year-old continues on second night

The desperate search for an 11-year-old girl reported missing in the Scottish Borders is set to continue for a second night. Kaitlyn Easson, from the Langlee area of Galashiels, was last seen at the Galashiels Transport Interchange near the town centre at around 5.45pm on Sunday. Police Scotland 11 year old Kaitlyn Easson reported missing in Galashiels Police ScotlandChief Superintendent Catriona Paton said with Kaitlyn reported missing for more than 24 hours, officers are growing “increasingly concerned” for her welfare. In addition to asking people to approach officers with any information they may have on the young child’s whereabouts, she also confirmed a public information portal has been established. This, she said, will enable members of the public to upload any doorbell or dashcam footage which could help find Kaitlyn.
