Left back Firpo’s first top-flight goal halted Leeds’ 10-game winless league run and ensured a winning start for new boss Javi Gracia in his first game in charge. [ Premier League table ]Leeds appointed former Watford manager Gracia on Tuesday after last week’s defeat at Everton left them in the relegation zone and his side responded with their first league win since November. Declan Rice added a fine third and substitute Michail Antonio rounded off a much-needed win for boss David Moyes.

Dropped by Adam Zampa on 19, the 23-year-old opener pummelled five fours and three sixes before he was clean-bowled by a Josh Hazlewood yorker. “They got the jump on us in the first four overs and we never really recovered from that,” said Finch.

Rory McIlroy returns to world number one spot with victory in the CJ Cup

Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland plays his shot from the fourth tee during the final round of the CJ Cup at Congaree Golf Club in Ridgeland, South Carolina. Then, on the drivable Par 4 15th, McIlroy’s tee shot found a greenside bunker and Kitayama’s drive found the green. However, McIlroy hit his sand shot to four feet and sank the birdie while Kitayama three-putted from 50 feet and walked off with a par and two adrift. McIlroy suffered more tension than required when he knocked his first putt eight feet by, but when Kitayama missed a 25 foot birdie putt, McIlroy two-putted for bogey to seal the deal with a one-shot winning margin over the American. it means a lot [to be world number one], I have worked so hard to get back to this place.

Rishi Sunak to be appointed British prime minister before building Cabinet

New Conservative Party leader and incoming prime minister Rishi Sunak waves as he left the Conservative Party headquarters on Monday. Once she has left, it will be Mr Sunak’s turn to see the king, who will ask him to form an administration. Mr Sunak ruled out an early general election demanded by opposition parties as the Tories move on to their third prime minister on the mandate won by Mr Johnson in 2019. He also said Ms Truss’s six-week premiership made Mr Sunak’s job “more difficult”, because of “the way the markets responded”. Mr Sunak’s ascendancy from MP to PM is the fastest in modern political history, having first won the constituency of Richmond in North Yorkshire in 2015.
