Pope Francis leads prayers to Benedict XVI as Catholics across the UK pray

Pope Francis prayed for his predecessor’s passage to heaven as he presided over a special New Year’s Day Mass in St Peter’s Basilica on Sunday, a day after Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI died in retirement at the Vatican. Francis will lead Benedict’s funeral on Thursday in St Peter’s Square. From Monday, his body will be in Saint Peter’s Basilica so the worshippers can pay their respects. Ratzinger went on to become Pope Benedict XVIJoseph Ratzinger was elected as the 265th pope on April 19 2005, aged 78, and chose the name Benedict. Biden’s Final Act in a Unified Washington: a $1.7 Trillion Spending Bill

After the Senate passed the “omnibus” spending bill Thursday night by a bipartisan 68-29 margin, the House passed the bill on Friday along far more partisan lines, 225-20. The 4,155-page bill is a sweeping measure that provides $772.5 billion for domestic priorities and $858 billion for defense. Not only did Democrats finish off their unified control of Congress with a spending bill chock full of their wishlist items, they also were able to pass some major legislative accomplishments during Biden’s first two years in Congress. Democrats passed and signed into law a $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill, a $433 billion bill tackling climate change and lowering the cost of prescription drugs, a $1.9 trillion COVID-relief bill, the most significant gun safety reform bill in nearly 30 years, an overhaul of the U.S.
