Pharmacy Board boss in new battle with members

Four mem­bers of the Phar­ma­cy Board of T&T are re­quest­ing in­for­ma­tion from pres­i­dent An­drew Ra­haman ahead of the next An­nu­al Gen­er­al Meet­ing (AGM) due in Feb­ru­ary. They in­clude Min­istry of Health-ap­point­ed mem­bers Ju­nia Wal­cott and Clin­ton Sa­hadeo, the Med­ical Board ap­pointees Dr Aruna Singh and Dr Neil Singh. The coun­cil has ten mem­bers, with the oth­er six elect­ed by the mem­bers of the Phar­ma­cy Board. Claim­ing he had al­so been threat­ened by some mem­bers, Ra­haman said, “So, I would say pub­licly to hell with them with giv­ing me dead­lines. The Phar­ma­cy Board pres­i­dent said this was one of the rea­sons he was yet to sched­ule a date for the AGM.

Israel Khan to Mendes, Peterson: Clear your names

Se­nior Coun­sel Is­rael Khan is ap­peal­ing to his fel­low SCs Dou­glas Mendes and Gilbert Pe­ter­son to "pub­licly clear their good names and im­pec­ca­ble char­ac­ter" in the present im­broglio in­volv­ing for­mer at­tor­ney gen­er­al Faris Al-Rawi and Vin­cent Nel­son and the "il­le­gal in­dem­ni­ty agree­ment" in the mat­ter con­cern­ing at­tor­ney gen­er­al Anand Ram­lo­gan, SC and for­mer sen­a­tor, at­tor­ney Ger­ald Ramdeen in bribery and cor­rup­tion charges. In a me­dia re­lease, Khan said both Mendes and Pe­ter­son were named by Al-Rawi as the le­gal coun­sel­lors who ad­vised the State in the Nel­son mat­ter with Mendes be­ing the one who set­tled the in­dem­ni­ty agree­ment. He raised two ques­tions: were they paid for this ad­vice if in­deed it did come from them, and did they see the in­dem­ni­ty agree­ment in per­son or was it done over the tele­phone? "My dear fel­low Se­nior Coun­sels this ‘in­dem­ni­ty agree­ment’ con­sists of mas­sive in­duce­ments in the form of mil­lions of dol­lars paid to Nel­son’s lawyers and him­self and oth­er shock­ing promis­es made to Nel­son. Khan re­ferred to LATT (the Law As­so­ci­a­tion of T&T) which is of the view that sign­ing the in­dem­ni­ty agree­ment was high­ly un­usu­al.

Skerritt promises CWI review of shock World Cup exit

Penal residents protest over landslips

Be­tween the five and 10-mile mark­er in Rock Road, res­i­dents blocked the street by burn­ing de­bris and felling trees in four lo­ca­tions, call­ing on the au­thor­i­ties to pro­vide an im­me­di­ate, long-term so­lu­tion to the col­laps­ing road. Over at Tim­i­tal junc­tion in San Fran­cique, the protest was less in­tense but the res­i­dents had a sim­i­lar plight. Res­i­dents showed Guardian Me­dia a se­vere land­slip. The res­i­dents be­lieve a leak­ing WASA line un­der the road­way is to blame. How­ev­er, WASA told Guardian Me­dia leaks had caused nei­ther of the land­slips.
