An off-duty police officer has been shot in Omagh, County Tyrone. Ulster Unionist Party MLA Tom Elliott told ITV News that he was told the officer was shot four times by two masked men. "I'm told the police officer is a fairly senior officer and he was seeing young people at a coaching session at the local sports complex," he said. The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said they received a 999 call at 8.02pm following reports of an incident in the Slievard area of Killyclogher. Northern Ireland Secretary Chris Heaton-Harris has condemned the shooting of a police officer in Omagh, Co Tyrone.

Netflix’s anti-war epic All Quiet On The Western Front leads the pack with 14 nominations at the Bafta awards on Sunday, where Colin Farrell could win for the first time. All Quiet On The Western Front, directed by German filmmaker Edward Berger and based on the 1929 novel of the same name by Erich Maria Remarque, is nominated for top gongs including best film, best director and best film not in the English language. Both films have also received nods for best film, with Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis and Todd Field’s Tar rounding off the five-strong list. Its other nominations include outstanding British film, best director, best original screenplay and best supporting actor for Irish stars Gleeson and Barry Keoghan as well as best supporting actress for Irish actress Kerry Condon. Bafta and Oscar-winner Sandy Powell will be awarded a Bafta Fellowship, becoming the first costume designer to receive the body’s highest honour.

Secretary of State insists return to direct rule '100% not on the agenda'

The UK Government has dismissed pursuing direct rule for Northern Ireland as MPs voted to extend the deadline for holding a new Assembly election. But he insisted a return to direct rule from London is "100%" not on his agenda. His assurances came as MPs approved the Northern Ireland (Executive Formation) Bill and sent it to the House of Lords for further scrutiny. For Labour, shadow Northern Ireland secretary Peter Kyle said the vacuum caused by the absence of Stormont is having a "profound" impact on Northern Ireland. As part of the Bill, MPs supported an amendment to ensure opt-out organ donation laws for Northern Ireland can proceed.

The government said it is introducing voter ID as a legal requirement in order to "protect the integrity of elections", despite there being little evidence of electoral fraud at UK polling stations.
