NHIS, JCHIMA patients decry poor service provision at Jigawa teaching hospital

Patients who subscribed to the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and Jigawa State Contributory Health Insurance Management Agency (JCHIMA) are groaning over the poor service delivery at the Rasheed Shekoni, Federal University Dutse Teaching Hospital (FUDTH). The patients, whose cost of treatment are covered by the NHIS and the JCHIMA, have accused the management of the hospital of using the scheme to defraud them. Rufa’i Adamu, one to the subscribers of the NHIS, said the insurance scheme has not been up to par with service delivery. So I should go and come back in another day,” Mr Adamu lamented. Also Mr Abdullahi Ali, a staff of the Nigeria Correctional Service in Dutse, also complained about the poor services at the hospital.

EPL: Southampton force Arsenal to draw as Leicester climb out of relegation with away win

Southampton forced Arsenal to their first draw of the season in a game that ended 1-1 at the Saint Mary’s Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Gabriel Martinelli’s curling effort was deflected off Duje Caleta-Car for a corner in the 33rd minute, as Arsenal attempted a quick counterattack. Despite the draw, Arsenal lead the EPL table with 28 points, two points better than Manchester City. The hosts were fast to pounce on the Bees as they scored three goals within 14 minutes of play. The game was tied until the 74th minute when Bobby Reid scored and ten minutes later, Willian added the third.

Europa League: Uzoho unable to save Omonia, Ronaldo seals victory for United

Super Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho and his Cypriot club, Omonia Nicosia, have crashed out of the Europa League following a 2-0 defeat to table toppers, Real Sociedad. Uzoho was retained in-between the sticks for Thursday’s encounter after his heroic performance against Manchester United at Old Trafford a fortnight ago. But the goalkeeper was unable to save his troubled club this time as their poor run in the Europa League extended to five games with no point. In the other Group E tie, Cristiano Ronaldo sealed victory for Manchester United as they affirmed their qualification to the next round with a 3-0 victory over Sheriff. Thursday’s victory meant United are through with a game to spare.

Nigeria is 10th country with most internet freedom in the world – Report

Published on Friday, the report ranked Nigeria 10th on the index of countries with the most internet freedom globally. Other factors considered were the extent of banning and restrictions of torrents, pornography, political media, social media, VPNs, and messaging and VoIp apps. The UK takes the top spot as the country with the most internet freedom, scoring the lowest, 0 out of 10. The Asian country has one of the highest proportions of internet users and ranks very low for internet censorship. Germany came third, ranking highly thanks to its internet freedom score of 77 and sharing the second place for this factor.

Peter Obi’s campaign lied about dissolution of Next UK

The Labour Party presidential campaign office has reacted with a false claim to a PREMIUM TIMES’ report on the dissolution of Next International (UK) Limited, a company that was owned by the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi. On Wednesday, PREMIUM TIMES exclusively reported how the company was removed from the UK Companies House register in September 2021 following a first and second gazette notice of a “compulsory” strike off of the entity by authorities in the UK. Our report revealed that Next International (UK) Limited failed to submit its annual accounts for the year 2020, hence, the company was struck off and dissolved in 2021. When the Companies House didn’t receive any reply to its letters, a final gazette to dissolve the entity was issued on 7th September 2021. Running foul of UK lawsBefore its final dissolution, records show that at various times, UK Companies House had to always issue a warning for “compulsory strike-off” before Next International filed its annual report.

Carabao Cup: Super Eagles trio in semi final

Three Super Eagles players have advanced with their teams to the competition’s semifinal stage, continuing the good fortunes of Nigerian players in the League Cup. Aribo’s Southampton did the almost impossible on Wednesday night when they eliminated five-time champion Manchester City from the competition for the seventh time in seven years. Southampton have never won the League Cup, losing the 1979 and 2017 finals, and they will face Newcastle in a two-legged semi-final later in January. They are now back on track to play at Wembley as they reached the League Cup semi-finals for the first time since 1992. Awoniyi and Dennis have to navigate past Manchester United over two legs to make it to the League Cup final before thinking of winning it.

Matchday 18 in Serie A kicked off on Friday with the mammoth clash between leaders Napoli and second-placed Juventus at Estadio Diego Armando Maradona. AC Milan, Inter Milan, and Juventus were tasked with reducing the gap to Napoli, but only Inter Milan did anything of the sort. There was a torrent of goals compared to other weeks, with 32 goals scored in the nine matches already played.
