‘Black Adam’ Zaps $7.6M In Thursday Night Previews

The New Line DC Dwayne Johnson movie Black Adam racked up $7.6M in Thursday previews at 3,500 locations, a figure which beats the superstar’s previous preview nights, i.e. This is at least a very good start for Black Adam. Other comps which Black Adam is besting include F9 ($7.1M, which Johnson didn’t star in), Ant-Man ($6.4M), Shazam! There hasn’t been anything as glossy, star-studded and tentpoley like Black Adam since Sony’s Bullet Train which opened to $30M during the first weekend of August. As is standard with Johnson, the overseas prospects for Black Adam are brighter than domestic; industry outlook for a global start this weekend is around $135M.

Nasim Pedrad’s ‘Chad’ Lands At Roku With Season 2 Pickup

The second season of Nasim Pedrad’s coming-of-age comedy series will run on The Roku Channel after it was scrapped as part of the cost-cutting measures at Warner Bros. Roku, which previously acquired the Quibi library, will now exclusively carry the second season of Chad, which is completed and was initially set to premiere on TBS in April and then in July. The streamer also has picked up the non-exclusive rights to Chad‘s first season whose original run on TBS ranked as 2021’s #1 new scripted cable comedy series. “I really look forward to working with them and I can’t wait to finally share this season with our loyal fans.”The second season picks up with Chad as the newly elected class president. Jeff Beck, an eight-time Grammy winner who went from the Yardbirds to fronting his own group and working with Rod Stewart and is consider among the greats of rock guitar, has died. “On behalf of his family, it is with deep and profound sadness that we share the news of Jeff Beck’s passing. He flirted with and/or alternative between blues, jazz fusion and straight-ahead hard guitar rock. Jeff I will miss you along with your millions of fans.”Beck followed that set up in 1969 with Beck-Ola, the first album credited to The Jeff Beck Group. Beck would continue to tour and release albums — including the one-off Jeff Beck, Tim Bogert, Carmine Appice — into the mid-1970s, when he had his commercial breakthrough.
