The two were born and raised in Montreal by Guylaine and Gaetan, who both played basketball on the collegiate level in the 1990s. “Honestly, I always joke around and say that I was brainwashed into playing basketball and loving basketball, but it’s great,” Cassandre said. His high school in Blainville, Quebec, did not have a basketball team.

MINNEAPOLIS — Anthony Edwards scored 34 points, and reserve guard Jaylen Nowell added 23 points for the Minnesota Timberwolves in a 134-122 win over the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night. Karl-Anthony Towns added 21 points for Minnesota, which bounced back after a 115-106 loss to San Antonio at home Monday. Minnesota led by as many as 17, but San Antonio made another third-quarter push, as it did in Monday’s win. The Spurs scored 41 points in the quarter, led by Johnson’s 13, and had closed within 80-75 at one point. “We weren’t solid and sharp in the first half and they took advantage of it,” San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said.

Against Buffalo, Jefferson had 10 catches for a career-high 193 yards and a touchdown.

CeeDee Lamb's second TD catch made it 34-34 with 5:49 left in the game. He has thrown two TD passes in four straight games for the 49ers (11-4) and has won all three of his starts. Taylor Heinicke threw two TD passes for Washington (7-7-1) but also lost a fumble and threw an interception in the fourth quarter. Wentz, playing for the first time since Week 6, threw a 20-yard TD pass to Curtis Samuel.

NEW YORK (AP) — Amanda Serrano decided four years ago to only fight at her most comfortable weight. Her match last year against Katie Taylor that made women's boxing history meant moving up two weight classes, as would a rematch later this year. Serrano, like two-time Olympic boxing gold medalist Claressa Shields, also competed in mixed martial arts in an effort to boost profiles and paychecks. "Even as an amateur, I won the Golden Gloves at 125, so I was always a featherweight fighter," Serrano said. Now the Brooklyn resident is back where Taylor edged her last April by split decision in the first women's boxing match to headline at MSG.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — T.J. Watt is watching from the sideline in sweatpants and wearing a headset, trying to keep track of a Pittsburgh Steelers defense that desperately misses his menace and production. "I feel encouraged about where I'm at right now," said Watt, who returned to practice on Wednesday. Fortunately for Watt, an injury that can sometimes be season-ending proved to be only season-altering. In Cincinnati, Watt appeared ready to pick up right where he left off in 2021 when he tied an NFL record by collecting 22 1/2 sacks. It's more likely the Steelers wait until after next week's bye to turn Watt loose.
