Marco Rubio files five bills focused on spurring American industry

As he started his third term, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio promised an economic focus on American industry. Rubio also filed the American Innovation and Manufacturing Act. The Facilitating the Reshoring of Energy Grid Component Manufacturing Act, a bill Rubio first filed in August, would set up a new energy grid product manufacturing loan program within the Department of Energy. Each piece of legislation is a version of legislation Rubio has introduced in prior terms, most of it just from 2022. He also has promised to re-file another bipartisan bill, the National Development Strategy and Coordination Act, which was first submitted in December.

Poll: Miami-Dade voters overwhelmingly oppose full abortion ban, deporting Dreamers

When it comes to women’s reproductive rights and whether to deport so-called Dreamers, Miami-Dade County voters hold nuanced opinions regardless of political affiliation, new polling data shows. South Florida consulting firm Public Communications Group surveyed 6,656 registered Miami-Dade voters online in English and Spanish Oct. 12-21. “On abortion, no group supports an outright ban, and a plurality believe there should be no restrictions whatsoever,” said Democratic consultant Evan Ross, the firm’s CEO. Nine percent believe abortion should only be legal in cases of rape, incest or to save the mother’s life, and just 1% backed a full abortion ban. Less than 16% of Miami-Dade Republicans want to deport Dreamers outright.

Figuring out the abundance of red snapper in the South Atlantic seems to be easy enough — it’s there, to a fault. There is evidence to suggest notable crossover between Gulf of Mexico red snapper and those generally in the Atlantic Ocean. She presented her study this week to the Scientific and Statistical Committee of the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council. The thought was that Gulf red snapper larvae are growing up in waters of the South Atlantic, skewing the population. “We didn’t have any information further north, so it’s unclear whether that hotspot of red snapper egg production would extend further north,” Karnauskas said.

‘Enough is enough’: Mike Caruso files bill making hate acts, antisemitic messages a felony

Delray Beach Republican Rep. Mike Caruso is trying to crack down on a disturbing rise in antisemitism through new legislation that would make publicly displaying a swastika and other intolerant imagery a felony. In West Palm Beach, a closed-door discussion at County Hall last week resulted in Caruso’s bill, which he filed Jan. 19. “We are called to stand for the 6 million Jews that were murdered by Hitler’s Nazis in World War II. If we don’t do something now, then soon we may just have 1933 Nazi Germany here all over again,” Caruso said. The group, which has tracked antisemitism since 1979, said in December that 2022 was likely just as bad or worse.
