MANCHESTER, England (AP) — Manchester City cut Arsenal's lead at the top of the Premier League to five points with a come-from-behind 4-2 win against Tottenham on Thursday. But a rousing fightback after the break saw City score three times in 12 minutes. Tottenham had its own issues leading up to the match after dropping out of the top four in recent weeks. With the game opening up it was City who took the lead in the 63rd. Tottenham pushed for an equalizer, but it was City who put the result beyond doubt when Mahrez raced away on the break and beat Lloris again.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — In-person early voting began Tuesday in battleground Wisconsin amid ongoing lawsuits affecting which ballots can be counted or tossed, recently ordered bans on drop boxes, and restrictions on who can return ballots. Feitlinger said he worries that voters will be confused about the absentee voting process. The Wisconsin Supreme Court in July banned absentee ballot drop boxes located anywhere other than in a local election clerk’s office. A judge sided with Republicans in another lawsuit ruling that election clerks are not permitted to fill in missing witness address information. Nearly 259,000 absentee ballots had been returned as of Tuesday, according to the Wisconsin Elections Commission.3 months ago Morganton News Herald
EU nations have seen such a crisis coming straight at them almost from the day Russia invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24. Yet, at the end of EU meeting of energy ministers, the most palpable decision was to task the executive Commission to prepare proposals ready for decision at a Nov. 24 emergency meeting. “The main question is how to make sure that capping will still allow us to buy the gas we need on the market,” Sikela said. The EU has relied on increased imports of liquefied natural gas, or LNG, including from the United States, to help address the fall in Russian supplies. EU governments have already agreed to reduce demand for gas by 15% between this past August and March 2023.3 months ago Morganton News Herald
Tight end Pharaoh Brown is in concussion protocol from an injury suffered in the Baltimore game. Devan Duvaney returned a punt 46 yards to the Browns’ 21 to set up a Ravens field goal in the second quarter. Cade York’s 61-yard field goal attempt with 2:09 to play to tie the game was blocked. You mentioned the long return and the blocked field goal, so we have to be better. He missed a 54-yard field goal try with 16 seconds left in the game.3 months ago News-Herald
And in many ways, it could prove more existentially important to our survival: election denialism. On top of those 199, another 61 Republican candidates have “raised questions” about the election results, refusing to say the election was legitimate and raising doubts about phantom claims of mass fraud. Perhaps most chillingly, there are seven election deniers running for attorney general and seven more for secretary of state. We are literally poised to pack our elected government with people who believe election results they don’t like — the will of the people, in other words — should not count. The only way is to vote it out, to vote it into irrelevance, to vote it into obscurity.3 months ago News-Herald
The annual Army-Navy football game. For the 2022 intro, CBS brought eight student-athletes’ families to New York to talk about their sons and what the game means to them. The Army-Navy Game is a celebration of family and dedication. We are also reminded of the conversation — or series of them — that come before that as high school student-athletes. It’s one thing to ponder the possibility of being that teenager and hearing out a service academy commitment.1 month ago News-Herald
Inflation declined to 6.5% in December compared with a year earlier, the government said Thursday. The softer readings add to growing signs that the worst inflation bout in four decades is gradually waning. Still, the Fed doesn’t expect inflation to slow enough to get close to its 2% target until well into 2024. That is important because so-called “inflation expectations” can be self-fulfilling: If people expect prices to keep rising sharply, they will typically take steps, like demanding higher pay, that can perpetuate high inflation. Over the next five years, consumers expect inflation to average 2.4%, only barely above the Fed’s 2% target.22 days ago News-Herald
It will be on the three through six runners if the Cardinals want to return to state. Expect those three to trade spots at every loop before one can assuredly say they have the edge. If he is able to replicate that magic, then he has a good chance of qualifying for the state meet. If the Hilltoppers or Beavers don’t earn one of the final team spots, they will have runners contending for individual advancement. Individually, however, keep tabs on Ainsley Bothwick (20:03.90) of Kirtland and Lily Ayer (20:32.70) of Cardinal through the meet.3 months ago News-Herald
