As with every year, no National Rail services run in London on Christmas Day (December 25), with very few trains on Boxing Day (December 26) either. However, this year in particular, the timing of industrial action on the railways has meant higher demand for coaches, with Victoria Coach Station regularly seeing higher passenger numbers. On Christmas Day itself, a special network of routes linking London with 80 different towns, cities and airports across the UK will run. Coaches between Oxford and Victoria will run until late Christmas Eve (last departure 9.40pm) and start early Boxing Day (first departure 6am) though. Newcomer to the UK coach market FlixBus will continue to run its coaches on Christmas Day with both domestic and international destinations available, offering the cheapest alternative to Eurostar for travel to the continent as the high speed international train operator will be unable to run trains late Christmas Eve, all day Christmas Day or all day Boxing Day due to the RMT strike.

An EastEnders storyline prompted the most amount of calls to the BBC Action Line this year. The EastEnders storyline which featured Jean Slater’s bipolar disorder was among the storylines that prompted the public to get in contact with mental health support services. BBC Action Line received more than 850,000 calls and online visits this year – mainly over mental health issues – which is down 350,000 from 2021. A headteacher who ran an illegal school in South London has been banned from teaching despite insisting the children were happy at her school. Miss Ali was founder and headteacher at Ambassadors Home School on Mitcham Lane, which she ran alongside her 75-year-old dad Arshad Ali. A teaching panel met on December 13 to decide whether Miss Ali should be permanently banned from the profession. A spokesperson for the panel said: "The panel did not consider that Miss Ali showed any insight or remorse for her conduct.
