Review | ‘Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon’ soars alongside original series

‘House of the Dragon’ holds its own against the original ‘Game of Thrones’ series — but that’s not quite enough to quell its undoings; it doesn’t turn up the heat quite far enough in comparison to the first series’ best moments. Sitting down to watch the finale of “Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon,” I had a moment of eerie deja vu as I unwillingly remembered how poorly the last “Game of Thrones” finale went. The last episode of “House of the Dragon’s” first season aired on the night of Oct. 23. It definitely holds its own against the latter seasons of the original Game of Thrones — then again, the bar is on the floor — but it doesn’t have anything on the original show’s best moments. At its worst, House of the Dragon was a drab, colorless drama that seemed like a family drama sitcom gone wrong.

Opinion | Respect for local graves should continue during Spooky Season

But one tradition is better left behind this year and in the future: viewing the graves of the Feldevert family as a source of evil or demonic presence. The Black Angel statue sits in the cemetery on a short hill at the end of Reno Street. In the early 1890s, this grave plot was where Czech-Bohemian immigrant Teresa Feldevert buried her only son, Edward “Eddie” Feldevert. According to Black Angel historian and researcher Tim Parrot, Eddie’s death left Teresa Feldevert grief-stricken until her death in 1924. These are only two fictional versions of events about the Feldevert family, but historians know both to be inaccurate.

USG considers adding new Middle Eastern, North African, and Arab constituency senator

USG senators Amisha Mohanty and Ijeoma Ogbonna yielded authorship introduction time to Middle Eastern, North African, and Arab students speaking at the Oct. 25 meeting. The University of Iowa Undergraduate Student Government voted to push the decision to create an identity constituency senator for Middle Eastern, North African, and Arab (MENA) students to a later meeting on Tuesday. Ogbonna turned over her time to any present Middle Eastern, North African, or Arab students and faculty. It should be Middle Eastern, North African, and Arab with spelling of MENA in that shortened acronym there correctly, but that I would like that title to be changed for currently.”The Middle Eastern and North African Students Association (MENASA) is the Middle Eastern, North African, and Arab student organization at the UI. Sen. Kyle Clare questioned the absence of Israel from the list of countries included under the Middle Eastern, North African, and Arab term.
