Independent Chinese travellers are set to shake up expectations in Thailand and across all of Southeast Asia. More than 10 million Chinese tourists visited Thailand in 2019. Nearly 1.2 million Chinese tourists visited Bali in 2019, about one-fifth of the total. Even aviation hubs like Singapore are experiencing more of a trickle rather than a flood of Independent Chinese travellers. Now he has wings – Red Bull boss Mateschitz passes after long illness

Red Bull co-owner Dietrich Mateschitz has died aged 78. Red Bull billionaire Dietrich Mateschitz cofounded the ubiquitous energy drink in 1987 with Thai businessman Chaleo Yoovidhya (d. 2012). Before Red Bull, Mateschitz was a marketing executive for German consumer products company Blendax, known for shampoos. The two partnered to create Red Bull and aggressively invested in marketing to make the brand synonymous with extreme feats. Red Bull sold 7.5 billion cans worldwide in 2019, enough to provide caffeine to more than 80% of the planet.

Spielberg’s ‘Terminal’ man departs CDG forever

The man who lived in Paris’s Charles de Gaulle airport for 18 years and was the inspiration for Steven Spielberg’s film The Terminal died yesterday in his “beloved” airport. Merhan Karimi Nasseri suffered a heart attack in the airport around midday. Karimi Nasseri was believed to have been born in Iran 1945. But strangely noble, too.”For complicated reasons that no one except Karimi Nasseri had any real reason to sort out, he was a man without a country – or any other legal identity status. Missing Russian’s body found at sea near Patong Beach

All hope is now lost for the safe return of a woman with a memory condition who disappeared after a swim on a Phuket beach last week. The missing Russian woman’s dead body washed ashore near Patong Beach earlier this morning. The Thalang District Chief receive notification from rescue teams that the missing Russian woman’s body had been spotted by a local fisherman. According to The Pattaya News, the body was examined on Layan Beach, some 15 kilometres by sea from where she was found. The body was found wearing a swimsuit friends and relatives have apparently matched to the missing Russian woman, and police had them identify the body as well.

On Thursday of foreign ministers from ASEAN met in Indonesia’s capital Jakarta to discuss easing the crisis. No one from Myanmar showed up at the foreign ministers’ meeting, perhaps because they were not invited. Myanmar’s foreign ministry released a statement on Thursday blaming “resistance” for the violence and saying pressure to end the crisis will do more harm than good. Political analysts said the ASEAN meeting was disappointing and did nothing that might convince the generals to cooperate.
