Glover Teixeira called it a career after valiantly going the distance with Jamahal Hill despite suffering a sickening cut at UFC 283. The former light-heavyweight champion failed in his bid to regain his old title as he slumped to a unanimous decision defeat (50-44, 50-44, 50-44) in the UFC’s first pay-per-view main event of the year. He told Daniel Cormier: “In reality, I think I’m too tough for my own good, too tough for my own health. I’m going to focus on Alex Pereira, he is going to keep his belt for a while and then go up to light-heavyweight. Rather than book a rematch between the two men, UFC president Dana White opted to match Teixeira against Hill in the promotion’s next pay-per-view event.
