That should leave a little less than $500,000 in private funds in the nonprofit’s account. Attorneys representing Forward Together’s board declined to comment about what will happen to those funds. Verite contacted seven major private contributors listed in Forward Together’s 2021 Form 990, a financial report submitted to the IRS by tax-exempt organizations.

Experts: Teen’s death from brain-eating amoeba among few in US

LAS VEGAS (AP) - The death of a Las Vegas-area teenager from a rare brain-eating amoeba that investigators think he was exposed to in warm waters at Lake Mead should prompt caution, not panic, among people at freshwater lakes, rivers and springs, experts said Friday. “It gets people’s attention because of the name,” former public health epidemiologist Brian Labus said of the naturally occurring organism officially called Naegleria fowleri but almost always dubbed the brain-eating amoeba. Kyle, who has studied the organism for decades, said data did not immediately suggest that waters warmed by climate change affected the amoeba. “I think this year is sort of an average year for cases,” Kyle said. The key point is that warmer weather tends to generate more amoeba in the environment.”Not many labs regularly identify the organism, Kyle noted.

PRZEWODOW, Poland (AP) — Poland’s president said Wednesday that there are no indications that the missile blast in Poland that killed two people was an “intentional attack,” describing it as mostly likely an unfortunate accident. President Andrzej Duda said it was mostly likely a Ukrainian missile that fell in Poland, but he also said that the ultimate responsibility lies with Russia, which launched a barrage of missile attacks on Ukraine on Tuesday. There was no immediate proof that Tuesday’s blast was a deliberate, hostile attack on NATO member Poland that could trigger the alliance’s provisions for a collective military response. Poland and NATO used language that suggested they weren’t treating the missile blast as an intentional Russian attack, at least for now. A NATO statement called it a “tragic incident.”If Russia had deliberately targeted Poland, it would risk drawing NATO into the conflict.

Falling vaccination rates open the door to outbreaks of diseases once thought to be in the rearview mirror, experts say. Thursday’s CDC study was based on public school kindergarten vaccination reports from 49 states, and reporting on private schools from 48 states.
