New Glentoran manager Rodney McAree says the club will pursue the best players in the Premiership as it seeks to win a first League title since 2009. The Glens remain in contention for Irish Cup success and there is still time to revive title hopes. Ahead of his first home game in charge of the side against his former club Dungannon tomorrow night, McAree has reinforced the Glens’ mission to sign the cream of the crop of domestic talent. “If we identify a player who is a fabulous talent, we would like to bring him to Glentoran. “To be able to attract players like Niall McGinn speaks volumes for the quality of the League,” added McAree.

Richard Kerr raced to victory in Co DownRichard Kerr was an emphatic winner of the prestigious 45th Sunflower Trophy race at Bishopscourt for the first time yesterday as the event returned after a three-year absence. Kerr won Friday’s wet Superbike race from Eunan McGlinchey (McAdoo Kawasaki). He secured a double with victory over Seeley in race two by four seconds yesterday. “I’m over the moon and it’s great for AMD Motorsport because it’s their first Sunflower race and well,” Kerr said. In race two, Cooper won comfortably on the J McC Roofing/KMR Kawasaki by 11 seconds from Gary McCoy and Carl Phillips to clinch the Junior Sunflower Trophy.

Jonathan Rea was required to battle for second place in Argentina yesterdayJonathan Rea clinched a battling runner-up finish at San Juan in Argentina yesterday, but Alvaro Bautista took another giant step towards the World Superbike title. It was a huge blow for Turkish rider Razgatlioglu’s slender prospects of overhauling Bautista, who is now on course to win his maiden World Superbike crown with eight races left of the 2022 season. Rea closed the deficit to Razgatlioglu to seven points, but he is now 87 points behind Bautista and realistically mainly fighting with him for second position in the title hunt. The former MotoGP rider blew a 61-point lead under pressure from Rea, who went on to wrap up his fifth consecutive world title. “I felt lucky today a lot because in the first lap when Toprak crashed, he nearly hit me,” Bautista reflected.

From teenage striker with the world at her feet, Lilie Woods has a new dream — to one day be Northern Ireland’s number one goalkeeper. One penalty save was all it took to change the Mid Ulster Ladies player’s footballing path. Even before that she had done enough at underage level to make the full-time Northern Ireland training squad ahead of the Women’s Euro 2022 finals along with Crusaders Strikers’ Maddy Harvey-Clifford. When I got called up for the Northern Ireland squad she sent me a message saying congratulation and I was telling her that she just needs to keep working hard. “We are trying to push each other to become the best we can be because we’re a similar age as well.”Meanwhile, Northern Ireland Women will face Italy on Tuesday, November 15 at Seaview (7.00pm).

Adams exits Strictly full of praise for her partner

Jayde Adams has described her time on Strictly Come Dancing as the "best thing I have ever done in my life" as she became the fourth celebrity to leave the show after a night which celebrated the BBC's centenary. Adams and her professional partner Karen Hauer reprised their Charleston to comic song The Ballad Of Barry And Freda (Let's Do It), which was written and performed by fellow comedian Victoria Wood. After both couples had danced for a second time, it was a unanimous decision by the judges to save Rainford, sending Adams packing. Motsi added: "Well I thought you were both brilliant, I thought that both performances were better than Saturday night but I am going to save Molly and Carlos." The result show opened with a moving routine from the professional dancers in tribute to the BBC's natural history programming.

Stormont party leaders asked to support joint authority as TUV dismisses talk as Halloween scare tactic

However, the TUV has said talk of joint authority between the Irish and UK Governments is a “bogeyman” conjured up at Halloween to scare unionists. Nationalist parties and the Alliance Party have suggested the move could be a possibility if the Stormont institutions cannot be restored. “Joint authority is legally and constitutionally impossible. “The spectre of joint authority has only been conjured up this Halloween in order to force Unionists to agree to that which will mean the destruction of the Union.
