Gaza rockets and Israeli strikes follow deadly West Bank raid

On Thursday, police said security guards at the entrance to a West Bank settlement shot a woman who police said attempted to stab the guards. The Israeli military said Palestinian militants fired six rockets from the Gaza Strip towards the country’s south early on Thursday. Violence in the West Bank often sets off a response from militants in Gaza, although the rocket attacks were not immediately claimed by Palestinian militant groups. It was one of the bloodiest battles in nearly a year of fighting in the West Bank and east Jerusalem and raised the likelihood of further bloodshed. Israel captured the West Bank, along with the Gaza Strip and east Jerusalem, in the 1967 Middle East war.

Eva Green court case to hear Bournemouth film makers give evidence

TWO Bournemouth film makers are expected to be witnesses in a court case which will hear how Bond star Eva Green described crew members as “peasants” and an executive producer a “moron”. The film was also due to have starred Charles Dance and Oscar winner Helen Hunt and was to have been a big step up for producer Mr Merrifield and writer-director Mr Pringle. They remain directors of White Lantern Film Advance Limited. ‘Unbreakable’ Ukrainians ‘don’t feel fear any more’ one year on from invasion

Staff and evacuees at the Depaul Kyiv Day Centre have described escaping their home cities amid intense shelling at the start of the war and appealed to the West for more weapons and supplies one year later. Sergiy said: “For me, the war started at five in the morning, when rockets started flying over my head and I heard very loud explosions and the windows were blown out in my apartment complex. “In a very short time, they started the artillery shellings and they could go on for 20 hours a day without stopping. “On the third day of the war my garage was hit by a rocket and it exploded. “Being able to help others and build a future together and have hopes together is very uplifting for everyone.”

Yorkshire chairman Lord Kamlesh Patel felt a lack of support from the ECB

Yorkshire chair Lord Kamlesh Patel has accused the former leadership of the England and Wales Cricket Board of failing to support him when he faced criticism over the reforms he led at the county. Lord Patel took over at Yorkshire in November last year after the county had been stripped of hosting rights for international matches over their handling of racism allegations made by former player Azeem Rafiq. Reaction to emergency works in Barrack Road, Christchurch

EMERGENCY works in Christchurch have highlighted ‘decades of massive under investment’, according to elected leaders. A section of the A35 Barrack Road heading into the town centre remains closed following a gas leak on Friday, with SGN unable to confirm when it will re-open. It is the third time the busy road has been subject to repair works in the past seven months, but SGN say the incidents are not related.
