Familiarity breeds contempt, and there was something both familiar and contemptible about the brouhaha last week over a possible federal ban on gas stoves. The head of the CPSC insisted his agency was taking no steps to outlaw gas stoves. Yet here was CBS News trotting him out in 2023 as a credible voice regarding the dangers of climate change. Proscribing gas stoves might in itself be an innocuous initiative, even a valid one on health and other grounds. Whether climate activists have the discipline to wait until their goals become palatable to the mass of mankind remains to be seen.

Cybersecurity would be top priority if House GOP wins midterm elections, lawmaker says

After the Nov. 8 midterm elections, it’s possible that Republicans will take control of both the House and the Senate. In the Senate, cybersecurity legislation often goes through the Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee or the cybersecurity subcommittee of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee. Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) would likely become the chairwoman of the cybersecurity subcommittee in a GOP majority. In the House, cybersecurity bills often originate in the cybersecurity subcommittee of the Homeland Security Committee and the Energy and Commerce Committee. Garbarino would likely become the chairman of the cybersecurity subcommittee in a Republican-majority House.

Gas prices currently sit at $3.92 per gallon — more than $1.50 higher than when Biden first took office. And according to a recent Rasmussen poll, 86% of likely U.S. voters are concerned about high gas prices. So yes, Democrats are irrevocably tied to Biden’s radical environmentalist agenda that puts America at the mercy of foreign countries. They also put their faith in the wrong man to beg: OPEC and Saudi Arabia rebuffed Biden’s requests. High gas prices were always the point of Democrats’ plan to “transition.”They’ll pay for it in November.

But that same polling also shows Republicans are poised to substantially cut into the Democrats’ advantage with Latino voters, improving their chances of winning seats in districts and states where they have struggled for years. “Where traditionally Republicans came in late in the game, we started from Day 1 to build the Latino coalition,” said Republican operative Jesus Marquez, who runs Latino outreach for Laxalt. Through "Operation Vamos," the Senate GOP campaign arm says it has contacted more than 250,000 Latino voters in Nevada and more than 1.4 million total across the country in states with competitive races. The NRSC's special effort to court Latino voters also has focused on gathering data and polling to help individual GOP campaigns appeal to this voting bloc. This effort, the union said, would reach “more than half” of all Latino voters in Nevada, beginning this past Saturday through Election Day.

The Democrats rely on trickery

Democrat John Fetterman’s sad, stumbling debate performance against Republican Mehmet Oz underlined the fact that his party seeks victory with trickery. Neil Young once said a song of his “starts out slow and then fizzles out altogether.” Fetterman knows the feeling. One false pretense about Fetterman is that he’s fit for “the world’s greatest deliberative body.” For this, Democrats rely on a bald assertion from a campaign donor who is also the candidate's doctor. Another pretense is that Fetterman supports fracking, vital to Pennsylvania’s economy, when he repeatedly condemns it and the energy industry it supports. Democrats know that their policies are unconvincing when laid out clearly, so their path to victory is strewn with secrets, conjuring tricks, sleight of hand, and misdirection.
