The driver Lagorce today picks out as his favourite team-mate was well known to him from their time together in the junior categories. Two years his senior, Olivier Panis had been a French F3 rival in 1991 with a La Filliere Ralt-Alfa Romeo while Lagorce campaigned a Promatecme Dallara-Opel. Lagorce meanwhile remained with Promatecme to win the crown, seeing off team-mate Emmanuel Clerico, Olivier Thevenin’s KTR Ralt and Jean-Christophe Boullion’s Graff-run Bowman-VW. He push, I push; I push, he push. For me, it killed the [F1] career of Franck because I think he’s a very, very good driver and very hard worker.

F1 United States GP: Verstappen beats Leclerc to top spot in final practice

Hyderabad E-Prix: Bird sets the pace for Jaguar in FE practice

Jaguar driver Bird set a time of 1m13.631s with just five minutes remaining in the second practice on Saturday morning, heading a closely-contested contest that saw 18 of the 22 drivers finish within a second of each other. Bird finished 0.113s clear of Vergne and a further 0.067s clear of Cassidy, as Jaguar appeared to be the powertrain to beat heading into the inaugural Hyderabad E-Prix qualifying later on Saturday. The top 10 was rounded off by Sebastien Buemi in the Envision and the NIO 333 entry of Dan Ticktum. The incident prompted Porsche to withdraw all remaining cars from practice as a precaution, including the two Andretti-run entries of Jake Dennis and Andre Lotterer. Sergio Sette Camara was a surprise third in the NIO 333 car, a further 0.183s back, with Bird fourth-quickest for the Jaguar team using the same powertrain as Buemi’s Envision.

Crutchlow: Topping Malaysia MotoGP FP2 “a reward” for RNF’s “difficult year”

Retired three-time MotoGP race winner Crutchlow was drafted in from Aragon onwards to replace Dovizioso and has scored points in three of the last four grands prix. “It was an irrelevant session, but I felt ok so I put the slicks on and went at the end,” Crutchlow said after topping a MotoGP session for the first time since Aragon 2018 when he was with LCR Honda. “As soon as it started to dry I told the guys ‘I’ve got no grip’. “But the team were obviously happy, the sponsors here, [the team is] Malaysian. “When you qualify in the rain, it's difficult, especially in the Q1 because you’re trying to go through [to Q2].”
