Ex-All Blacks lock Jeremy Thrush helped the Western Force to a win over Melbourne’s Rebels in the Super Rugby Pacific series opening round. Jeremy Thrush has made a shock return from retirement to lead the Western Force to a pulsating 34-27 Super Rugby Pacific win over the Melbourne Rebels at Perth's HBF Park. The Rebels were on track for victory after opening up a 24-10 lead late in the first half of Saturday night's match. "Good first half, disappointing second half," Rebels coach Kevin Foote said. The Force hit the lead in the 64th minute when Stewart touched down after a successful rolling maul.

Ukrainian forces piled pressure on Russian positions in occupied Kherson, targeting resupply routes across a major river while inching closer Friday (local time) to making a full-scale assault on one of the first urban areas Russia captured after invading the country. Ukraine's military has regularly targeted those crossings with rockets. Russian-installed officials have urged residents to evacuate from Kherson city for their safety and to allow the military to build fortifications. Ukraine's military reported Friday that bank employees, medical workers and teachers were getting evacuated as the city's infrastructure also began to wind down. Kherson city, with a prewar population of about 284,000, was one of the first urban areas Russia captured when it invaded Ukraine, and it remains the largest city it holds.
