The Nigerian Sugar Masterplan, a road map to sugar self-sufficiency, was recently renewed for another 10 years. They have not keyed into the Sugar Masterplan because it takes some time to recoup the investment in the sugar industry and fear of policy inconsistency. How did a once vibrant sugar production sector tumble from a place of strength to desperation? With only three major investors in the sector for almost 10 years that the sugar masterplan has been in place. The investments, he said, were made by the bigwigs in the sugar production industry, which comprised Dangote Sugar, BUA Foods Plc and Flour Mills of Nigeria.
