It is understandable when approaching Saturday's clash with Manchester United, Potter would lean in the direction of Loftus-Cheek given the speed of Marcus Rashford on the left of United's attack. Potter does not have that luxury, meaning that Loftus-Cheek does not have the same defensive security in the wing-back role that James has offered him before. He will be hoping whoever he puts in that role, can offer enough sticking plaster in the short-term before James is fully recovered.
