The four power unit suppliers (Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull Power Trains, and Renault) agreed upon a set of regulations that make further power unit development illegal. With their power unit supplier Renault, reportedly not making any gains. Of course, the power unit improvements seen by the top three teams also benefit their suppliers.

The bottom five going into the final minutes were Yuki Tsunoda, Alex Albon, Daniel Ricciardo, Kevin Magnussen, and Zhou. The drivers in danger at the time were Albon, Tsunoda, Lance Stroll, Gasly, and Vettel. Albon, Tsunoda, Gasly, and Vettel all improved, but in the end, all four of them landed in the bottom five. As usual, Verstappen came out and topped the session, but for the third time in a row Leclerc came through to take the top spot. But Sainz, who doesn’t have any penalties to take, set a 1:34.356 and took pole position for the United States Grand Prix at Austin.

Aston Martin to reach agreement with FIA regarding cost cap breach

In the case of Aston Martin, it appears to be only a procedural error, which is punished differently than overspending. Williams had already signed an “accepted breach agreement” with the FIA because they had submitted documents relating to the cost cap too late at the beginning of the year. Ferrari: Leclerc intermediate tyre was a split strategy decision
