And so it is with great pride that I report Haylee Noyes and the Corning High Girls wrestling team are NSCIF Division 1 Section Champs for the first time in history. Ten girls from Corning High qualified to wrestle at the section, an astonishing number and a testament to an outstanding program. Haylee, just a junior, is joined by Elise Toste and Maggie Leal, the other first-place finishers from Corning High’s Section championship girl’s team. The Corning High School wrestling program has some exceptional coaches, as well. Their head coach is Josh Jackson who now sports a bright beard, courtesy of the girl’s wrestling team who dyed and selected his new magenta color.
My mother would have decked me if I’d tried to collect candy in the 9th grade. He explained that the post-World War II years were the golden age of Halloween for kids but beginning in the 1990s it had been claimed by adults. I suppose it makes sense, then, for adults to try to eke out some Halloween fun by trick-or-treating for candy, as well. More college kids are hitting the neighborhoods around their campus to collect free candy — after a raucous happy hour at the pub, no doubt. Put candy in your pillow case beforehand, so that it’s clear you are looking to collect free confections.5 months ago Red Bluff Daily News

Many places in California are linked to a history of powerful earthquakes — San Francisco, struck in 1906 and again in 1989 with the rest of the Bay Area and Santa Cruz. But the Humboldt County coast where a magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck offshore early Tuesday might be among the state’s most regular if unheralded quake customers. On Nov. 8, 1980, a magnitude 7 quake struck northwest of Eureka, with strong shaking for half a minute. Despite the high potential for earthquakes, Minson said that unlike the Bay Area, the fault lines and earthquake epicenters along the Humboldt County coast tend to be far out to sea, lessening their severity. Shaking from one quake can potentially spur motion on other nearby faults, “but large earthquakes are less likely than smaller earthquakes.”3 months ago Red Bluff Daily News
One might say that perhaps this was the weirdest beginning to a decade in the history of the world. After the defeat of Trump, that didn’t stop the true believers from trying to find ways to keep Trump in power. But this is the way of the new Republican Party — lose an election and it surely means that the Democrats cheated. Personally, as an RN, I watched several unvaccinated people die because they bought into the bullcrap that the vaccine didn’t work. But on Inauguration Day for Biden, Trump didn’t even have the ego strength to attend the peaceful transition of power.3 months ago Red Bluff Daily News
