Cloak and Dagger marks Halloween with ‘Tales from Inner Sanctum’

WEIRTON — Cloak & Dagger On the Air returns to the Top of West Virginia Convention and Visitors Bureau on Saturday at 7 p.m. with live stage performances perfect for Halloween, organizers say. This month’s performance, Cloak and Dagger On the Air presents “Tales from the Inner Sanctum,” will include three chilling dramas. Cloak and Dagger On the Air is a monthly theatrical series from the Ohio Valley Cloak and Dagger Co. that celebrates audio drama from all eras, particularly the fabled Golden Age of Radio. The Cloak and Dagger On the Air podcast completes the experience by presenting these stories in the way they were meant to be seen: by the mind’s eye. Commission receives update on broadband programs

NEW CUMBERLAND — Hancock County commissioners Thursday heard more about programs which are hoped to provide increased internet services to county residents. “There are a couple of programs that are coming out,” Mike Paprocki, executive director of the Brooke-Hancock-Jefferson Metropolitan Planning Commission, told commissioners during the meeting at the Hancock County Courthouse. Comcast is one of the providers selected for West Virginia’s Line Extension Advancement and Development program as well as the Major Broadband Project Strategies program. “They cover most of the panhandle with those two programs,” explained Nate Regotti, senior manager, government and external affairs for Comcast. Comcast estimates 1,100 homes in Hancock County alone will be connected to broadband services through the projects.

Outdoor classroom under way in Toronto

TORONTO — The new outdoor classroom at Toronto Junior-Senior High School will include an element familiar to those who attended the former high school, said school officials, who also are turning their attention to an area of the gym floor of the new elementary school. Taggart added members of the Class of 1968 also donated funds to have the stone moved, power-washed and installed at the outdoor classroom, which is between the junior-senior high school’s instructional and athletic wings. Taggart said its primary purpose will be for outdoor instruction but it also could be used during the lunch period and for special school events. She noted there had been plans for it when the high school was designed several years ago but it was cut from the project to save costs. The outdoor classroom was designed by Moh Ayt of Lesko Architecture of Cleveland.

Gathering held in front of the Diocese of Steubenville’s chancery to show support

STEUBENVILLE — The woman stood in front of the Diocese of Steubenville’s chancery Sunday, fighting back tears as she talked about plans to merge it with the Columbus diocese. Nearly a hundred parishioners, priests and nuns, rosaries in hand, gathered in front of the chancery to pray for the diocese, for Bishop Jeffrey Monforton and their priests. I think the people should have some say in it.”“We, the people, need to have a voice in our diocese,” he told the crowd. Hahn pleaded for “new life and new strength” in the diocese, while McManamon asked that they be blessed with wisdom. “We also pray, especially today, for our priests, our deacons and all those who are truly effected by this,” McManamon told the faithful.

WVU must move on from defeat

WVU has to defeat not only Max Duggan, the quarterback, and an offense that seems to wipe out 10 and 14-point deficits the way Secretariat wiped out the opposition in the 1973 Belmont Stakes, but they have to defeat an attitude of negativity that is surging through the Mountaineer fan base. “It has to do with an individual choice … you have to play better; you have to coach better. After Texas Tech, Brown wasn’t sure about the effort put forth by his team, and that got under his skin. He noted his defense was shorthanded due to injury going in and that Texas Tech was playing up-tempo running plays every 10 to 12 seconds. He noted that WVU had averaged facing just 66 snaps a game coming into the Texas Tech game but had played 55 snaps by halftime.
