A Coastguard helicopter, police rescue boats and other ships were in the water near the scene as the rescue effort got underway. The Coastguard ended their search for the night at 8pm. Witnesses told how Coastguard crews were spotted tapping on the hull and shouting before the boat sank. Rescue vessels with searchlights were seen on the water as the search effort entered the night. "Just before 3.30pm Coastguard Rescue Teams from Helensburgh and Greenock, a lifeboat from Helensburgh RNLI and the Coastguard helicopter from Prestwick were sent to assist and searched the area.
