Poor training may be hampering physical activity push in primary schools – study

Poor professional development may be hampering a £320 million drive to boost children’s physical health through primary schools, a study suggests. Schools choose how to spend their allocation of funding and some is expected to be spent on training teachers. A Cambridge University study said that many school-based interventions to promote physical activity and reduce sedentary behaviour have been delivered worldwide. These have “largely failed to change students’… behaviour”, according to research, and the team looked to staff training for possible answers. They found that key ingredients were often missing from the training teachers received.

Kent rugby side victorious at charity rugby event

A Kent rugby team grabbed victory in a trailblazing annual tournament to raise money for vulnerable and disadvantaged children. Simon Wright, a 48-year-old sales director, is an avid member and supporter of UK charity Wooden Spoon and played for the county at their Vets Fest 22 event this weekend. “Absolutely Wooden Spoon coming in and supporting disabled and disadvantaged children is incredibly important.”Since 1983, Wooden Spoon have funded more than 1,300 projects, across the UK and Ireland, totalling over £29 million. “There’s a lot of rugby, a lot of beers, a lot of blokes and women which is great. “Kent Women have been fantastic so we’ve had a great day and of course we won the competition!

A judge in the US has sentenced former Theranos executive Ramesh “Sunny” Balwani to nearly 13 years in prison for his role in the company’s blood-testing hoax. While giving evidence in her trial, Holmes accused Balwani, 57, of manipulating her through years of emotional and sexual abuse. Balwani and Holmes met around the same time she dropped out of Stanford University to start Theranos in 2003. Before Theranos’ downfall, Holmes teamed up with Balwani to raise money from deep-pocketed investors that included software mogul Larry Ellison and media magnate Rupert Murdoch. “Mr Balwani is not the same as Elizabeth Holmes,” his lawyers wrote in a memo to the judge.

South West Wales Connected Community Rail Partnership has been re-accredited by the Community Rail Network. South West Wales Connected is a Community Rail Partnership established by Transport for Wales and hosted by 4theRegion, a membership alliance working to bring about positive change in Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire. The South West Wales rail network has 29 stations, reaching from Port Talbot to Fishguard.
