The United States said the white ball was clearly a spying effort, while China mumbled something about a weather balloon that drifted astray. After all, there's both the Quad security dialogue between the United States, Australia, India and Japan, and AUKUS, a fledgling alliance between Australia, Britain and the United States. The strait connects the Andaman Sea and the South China Sea, with the city-state of Singapore lying at the southeastern end.
