And yet Bacharach, with longtime collaborator Hal David, churned out many of the catchiest songs of the era. Bacharach also wrote such massive hits as Perry Como's "Magic Moments," the Shirelles' "Baby It's You," Tom Jones' "What's New Pussycat? "Farewell Burt Bacharach, you were a king." Earlier this week, the director of the Forensic Audit Division of the Texas secretary of state’s office sent a letter to Harris County election officials informing them that it would be sending “a contingent of inspectors” to observe the “central count” next week, when early voting in Texas is slated to begin. But top officials from the county, including Harris County Attorney Christian Menefee, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo, as well Harris County Democratic Party officials, are characterizing the moves by the secretary of state’s office as a ruse to “interfere” in the November general election. The inspectors are permitted to observe, but not allowed to interact with voters — or to speak to anyone other than the presiding judge at the election location. “We send them to many other counties, large and small, every single year,” Taylor said.

Archaeologists restoring ISIS damage in Iraq discover Assyrian reliefs unseen for millennia – KION546

Christian Edwards, CNNArchaeologists in northern Iraq have uncovered some extraordinary Assyrian rock carvings dating back around 2,700 years. The discovery was made in Nineveh, east of Mosul, by a joint US-Iraqi excavation team completing reconstruction work on the Mashki Gate, which ISIS militants destroyed in 2016. Iraq was home to some of the world’s oldest cities and earliest civilizations, including the Babylonians, the Sumerians and the Assyrians. In around 700 BC, the Assyrian King Sennacherib made Nineveh his capital and built the Mashki Gate — meaning the “Gate of God” — to guard its entrance. It was reconstructed in the 1970s, but was then destroyed with a bulldozer by ISIS soldiers during their occupation of Iraq.
