Stephens has long been publicly labeled in certain climate circles as a climate denier for his professed skepticism around certain aspects of science. Along the way, he provides a lot of whataboutisms and flawed presentations of climate science that seem specifically designed to drive anyone who has been working on climate insane. One obvious bad faith segment that caught my eye: Stephens quotes Steve Koonin, a former Obama administration official turned climate denier favorite talking head, on Greenland’s melt. At Times Opinion, we believe evolution of views is not just possible, but part of a good-faith and curious engagement with the world. Being alarmed about climate does not equate to being unreasonable about the challenges ahead, as Stephens seems constantly determined to depict climate activists.
But there’s one idea that seems like it’s stolen from the absolute worst corners of Silicon Valley: Yarvin wants Trump to have an app that his followers can use to get directions about where to go and what to do. AdvertisementWhat does Yarvin’s hypothetical “Trump App” do? Trump supporters could sign up and get their marching orders about who to vote for in various primaries and elections, according to Yarvin. “Oh — you know, such is life.”AdvertisementThe entire Vox article is definitely worth reading, if only to understand how extremism is being normalized in an era of increased racism and anti-semitism. Admittedly, many of Yarvin’s ideas seem like they could never happen, like the forced disbanding of private institutions like Harvard and the New York Times.1 month ago Gizmodo

Which category Black Adam falls into is still up for debate, but the music does its job, and then some. Black Adam Theme | Lorne Balfe | WaterTowerGermain Lussier, io9: I was listening to your score in preparation for this interview and I can’t get that Black Adam theme out of my head. McLaren’s multi-million dollar 2022 Formula 1 car and the e-reader you keep on your bedside table now have something in common: they each feature an electronic paper display. But while your Kindle helps you fall asleep each night, McLaren Racing is instead leveraging the unique display technology to help revolutionize corporate sponsorships. Putting a corporate sponsor’s logo on a Formula 1 race car isn’t just a way to say thanks, it’s valuable publicity for the company, so much so that after a race it’s someone’s job to calculate just how much screen time a given sponsor’s corporate logo had. Sponsors compete for placement on the limited space a Formula 1 car offers, but that could soon change. AdvertisementMcLaren Racing recently announced a partnership with a company called Seamless Digital to upgrade its 2022 MCL36 cars with electronic paper screens.1 month ago Gizmodo

Wikipedia editors have added a new landing page that asks readers to be more specific if they’re searching for the “2022 United Kingdom government crisis.” And it speaks to just how poorly things went for conservative Prime Minister Liz Truss, who resigned her post Thursday. Wikipedia added the disambiguation page on Wednesday after editors kept getting confused about which political crisis was being written about. British conservative politician Suella Braverman was forced to resign as home secretary on Wednesday, roughly the U.S. equivalent of the Secretary of State. LIVE: Can Liz Truss outlast a lettuce? Advertisement“I’m livid, and I really shouldn’t say this, but I hope all those people that put Liz Truss in Number 10, I hope it was worth it,” Walker continued.1 month ago Gizmodo
