WASHINGTON -One year ago, U.S. President Joe Biden was bracing for the worst as Russia massed troops in preparation to invade Ukraine. Ukraine's president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, was offered help getting out of his country if he wanted it. Now, as Biden prepares to travel to Poland to mark the anniversary of the war, he faces a legacy-defining moment. In Poland, Biden is set to meet with allies to reassure them of the U.S. commitment to the region and to helping Ukraine "as long as it takes." From the beginning of his administration, Biden has argued the world is at a crucial moment pitting autocracies against democracies.

Protests against Iranian government gain momentum across Canada

Protests organized by local human rights groups and Iranian-Canadian organizations were held on Saturday in Toronto, Winnipeg, Halifax, Montreal and other communities across Canada. Amini’s death has become a symbol of oppression Iranian women have faced for decades. In Iran, thousands march in the streets and many women and girls continue to remove their headscarves in support of Amini. “This is so brave, and high school girls, other young girls in the street and how the other men and young boys support them, I'm so proud of them,” she said. The Iranian woman from the GTA was present during the previous 2009 protests, after the Iranian presidential election was plagued by irregularities and allegations of vote-rigging.

Klay Thompson ejected for first time in NBA career

So was Devin Booker's point total and the Phoenix Suns' lead. Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton signs on with OSIC; athletes angry about rescheduled AGM

CALGARY -- Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton has signed an agreement to join Abuse-Free Sport, the new federal program to prevent and address maltreatment in sport in Canada. The announcement comes a week before the embattled national sport organization resumes its heated annual general meeting that was abruptly adjourned on Sept. 29. Numerous current and retired Canadian bobsled and skeleton athletes have been calling for the resignation of Sarah Storey, the president of the board and acting CEO of Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton (BCS), since March, decrying what they've called a toxic environment of maltreatment within the organization. Athletes have responded angrily about the scheduled conclusion of the AGM, saying the date and location hinder athletes' opportunities to participate. St-Onge has given national sport organizations until April of 2023 to become full signatories of OSIC, which began taking complaints on June 22.

SHISHMAREF, Alaska -Search online for the little town of Shishmaref and you'll see homes perilously close to the ocean, and headlines that warn this Native community in western Alaska is on the verge of disappearing. That traditional lifestyle is vulnerable to climate change effects. "For someone to say that climate change is not real kind of hurts a little bit because we're seeing it firsthand," she said. Ask John Kokeok about climate change effects and he'll tell you that he started paying attention after a personal tragedy. John blames climate change and he has been retelling his story ever since in hopes of warning younger generations and finding solutions to protect Shishmaref.

To hear Horner's nearly 50-minute long defense of Red Bull's spending, the saga seems trite. He spent a great deal of time defending high-end catering services, and included a reference to Red Bull's sick pay policy. Red Bull has already wrapped up both a second F1 title with Verstappen and the constructors' championship with three races remaining this season. McLaren head Zak Brown had accused Red Bull of cheating by breaching the spending cap in a letter Brown sent to the FIA.

The Arizona race is one of a handful of contests that Republicans targeted in their bid to take control of what is now a 50-50 Senate. Masters won Trump's endorsement after claiming "Trump won in 2020." Nearly half of Arizona voters say the economy is the most important issue facing the country, according to AP VoteCast, an expansive survey of more than 3,200 voters in Arizona. A majority -- 7 in 10 voters -- say they are confident that votes will be counted accurately in this year's election.
