“All Quiet on the Western Front” was a big winner in Sunday’s British Academy Film Awards, taking seven awards including best picture. Cate Blanchett won best actress for her role in “Tár.”Also winning four awards was “The Banshees of Inisherin,” which won best British film. The film’s seven awards set a BAFTA record for a film not in the English language. Vince McMahon built WWE into a worldwide organization, shattering the former concept of “territories” that were part of a “gentlemen’s agreement” between promoters, including the World Wide Wrestling Federation (now WWE), which was founded and run by McMahon’s father, Vince McMahon Sr. Vince McMahon Jr. changed that during the 1980s, offering professional wrestling matches on national television and hosting major events such as WrestleMania.

Stocks tick higher ahead of hotly anticipated inflation data

The S&P 500 was 0.5% higher in early trading ahead of Tuesday’s report on inflation at the consumer level across the country. It’s coming off its worst week in nearly two months. The Fed has aggressively hiked rates to their highest level since the dawn of the Great Recession to drive down the worst inflation in generations. Yields were relatively steady Monday ahead of the inflation report. By the count of strategists at Credit Suisse, this is shaping up to be the worst earnings reporting season outside of a recession in 24 years.

Broken Arrow Police warn public as they investigate mail thefts

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — Broken Arrow Police are investigating after seeing an uptick in reports of people having their mail stolen and checks washed. They said thieves are trying to steal money and want to warn people so they don’t become victims. Ethan Hutchins is the spokesperson for Broken Arrow Police. Hutchins said they’ve had around 84 reports of mail thefts this year, nearly meeting last year’s total of 101. So we don’t want you to be the next victims, so make sure you’re just being careful about how you’re going about paying for stuff,” Hutchins said.

The Spanish adventurer explained how he planned to go to Tehran, the Iranian capital, the following day, where a television station wanted to interview him. His next step would have been Bandar Abbas, a port in southern Iran where he would hop on a boat to Qatar. His parents reported him missing on Oct. 17, and they said Spain's police and diplomats were helping the family. Nets trade Durant to Suns, get Bridges in 4-team deal

NEW YORK — (AP) — Kevin Durant's time in Brooklyn ended Thursday when the Nets traded him to the Phoenix Suns as part of a four-team deal. He asked for a trade last summer and the Suns were interested, and finally got him before Thursday's 3 p.m. EST trade deadline. He was moved just days after the Nets traded Kyrie Irving from Dallas, a stunningly fast end to the superstar era in Brooklyn. Now it's the Suns with a top collection of talent, with Durant joining Devin Booker, Chris Paul and Deandre Ayton. But those players can't replace the firepower the Nets lost with Durant and Irving, two All-Star starters.

EU to boost Ukraine funds amid refugee exodus concerns

The plan, endorsed at a summit of EU leaders in Brussels, would see the 27-nation bloc match U.S. financial support for war-ravaged Ukraine in monthly installments. “Ukraine is telling us that they need approximately 3-4 billion euros per month to have enough resources for the basics,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said. “It is very important to Ukraine to have a predictable and stable flow of income,” von der Leyen told reporters. Nearly eight months into the war, Russia has increasingly targeted Ukraine’s power stations, waterworks and other key infrastructure with missile and drone strikes. In a summit statement, the EU leaders affirmed that they “will stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes” with continued political, military and economic support.
