(Larry Dye/The Epoch Times)NEW YORK—A time for renewal and reflection emerged as key themes for adherents of the spiritual practice Falun Gong who participated in Flushing’s Lunar New Year parade on Jan. 21 to usher in the year of the rabbit. Hundreds of Falun Gong practitioners formed several segments of a thousands-strong parade that marched through the heart of New York City’s largest Chinese community. In 1999, the CCP, threatened by the booming popularity of Falun Gong, which had within a few years an estimated 100 million adherents in China, launched an aggressive campaign to eliminate the practice. But after he read “Zhuan Falun,” the main text of Falun Gong, “it automatically shifted how I was thinking,” he said.
