Arsenal are now only involved in the Europa League and Premier League, but have a good chance of winning both titles this season. The north Londoners have been handed a perfect omen ahead of the round of 16 tie, with Sporting having never scored against the Gunners in their history. The last time the two teams faced each other was back in the Europa League group stage in 2018.

It is understandable when approaching Saturday's clash with Manchester United, Potter would lean in the direction of Loftus-Cheek given the speed of Marcus Rashford on the left of United's attack. Potter does not have that luxury, meaning that Loftus-Cheek does not have the same defensive security in the wing-back role that James has offered him before. He will be hoping whoever he puts in that role, can offer enough sticking plaster in the short-term before James is fully recovered.
