It is just the second time the Socceroos have reached the round of 16, repeating the achievement of 2006. And Arnold has overseen two clean sheets in a row, another first for Australia at a World Cup. “Because we have been listening and hearing about the golden generation of 2006 who got four points – and now we have got six. “Maybe, again, we’re talking about a new generation.”Arnold was nearly sacked in March by Football Australia as the Socceroos‘ qualification campaign stuttered.

Emergency $51m relief funding for River Murray flood towns

Premier Peter Malinauskas with Ministers Susan Close and Joe Szakas at the Waikerie ferry today. The nine local government areas eligible for disaster funding are Alexandrina Council, Berri Barmera Council, Coorong District Council, District Council of Karoonda East Murray, District Council of Loxton Waikerie, Mid Murray Council, Murray Bridge Council, Pastoral Unincorporated Area and Renmark Paringa Council. Estimates of 175GL per day surging down the River Murray into South Australia in December led to a Major Emergency being declared by the Police Commissioner Grant Stevens. Forecasts show River Murray flows have a moderate likelihood of reaching 200 gigalitres a day and a low likelihood of 220 gigalitres a day. Once the Waikerie ferry is successfully transferred to the high flow ramp, it is expected to remain operational while Taylorville Road (Waikerie ferry access road) remains open.

Space projects' funding confirmed in budget

Adelaide housing market defies national price slump

Apart from Adelaide, house prices in every capital dropped with the Sydney, Melbourne, and Canberra markets seeing the speediest downturns ever recorded. “We’re going through housing market conditions that many buyers and sellers have never experienced in their lifetime,” Domain’s chief economic researcher Nicola Powell said. In Brisbane and Hobart, unit prices grew while house values dropped, and Perth and Darwin were the only cities where house prices held stronger than units. But Powell says the housing market should remain relatively unscathed. “With fewer investors purchasing homes to rent out, the limited supply of stock, coupled with strong demand, is leading to heightened increases in advertised rental prices,” he said.

Dredging machinery will be removed for the first time in years as high River Murray flows scour the mouth clear of sand build up near Goolwa. Apart from a few months off during the 2016 high river flow, the dredgers have been operating at the mouth since 2015. The dredging machinery is a common sight at the picturesque Murray Mouth. Apart from stopping for a few months during the 2016 River Murray high flows, Bruce said the current dredgers have operated at the Mouth since 2015 and, before that, from 2002 to 2010. “Without an open Murray Mouth – and with reduced River Murray flow as has been the case between 2017 to 2020 – the Coorong would salinise, and water levels would drop significantly over spring and summer,” he said.
