By Sunday AniFormer Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Anyim Pius Anyim has joined several well meaning Nigerians who have commended the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi for changing the country’s political equation. “I must state here and always that I am proud of His Excellency, Peter Obi for doing what I could not do,” he said. He recounted what happened at the PDP presidential primaries, saying, “I am sufficiently knowledgeable of the event leading to and after the PDP presidential primaries and have my own convictions why I should not, in any way, be part of the G5 governors and leaders. When the zoning failed, Obi pulled out and joined LP, while I continued to the end. I must state here and always that I am proud of His Excellency, Peter Obi for doing what I could not do.

Nigerian doctors poorly paid, overworked – NMA state chairman

From Noah Ebije, KadunaThe Chairman, Kaduna State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Dr Madaki Sheyin, has said that Nigerian doctors are poorly paid and overworked, rendering them too miserable and economically uncomfortable to remain on the job. ‘Let me inform you all that the Nigerian doctor is poorly paid, overworked, lack necessary work tools and has become a target for kidnap. “We as Nigerian doctors have been taken from the lofty heights of nobility to nothingness by the neglect and possible disdain for the health sector by successive governments. Dr Sheyin also noted that Nigerian doctors have been rendered unimportant by successive governments for inadequate attention to the health sector. He said insecurity was one of the factors for the mass exodus of Nigerian doctors to the UK.

NTDC boss launches new innovation in tourism sector

He stated that the new product known as Hackathon would utilize tourism potentials for the nation’s economic growth. “Therefore, we have identified the need to deploy technological solutions for sectoral growth across the tourism value chain in Nigeria. With over 147 million active internet subscriptions and a tele-density of almost 97 percent, we have a readymade and vast domestic market for tourism development locally,” he stated. He reiterated that the goal of NTDC was to improve the country’s ranking on the world economic forum competitive index, by harnessing the growing popularity of digital technology to solve prevalent problems across the tourism value chain in Nigeria.

Yakubu tours Ogun in wake of arson at INEC offices

From Laide Raheem, AbeokutaThe National Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, on Tuesday, declared that the destruction of some offices of electoral umpire and election materials in some parts of the country, would not deter the Commission from conducting a credible poll in 2023. Yakubu stated this while fielding questions from newsmen after inspecting the premises of Abeokuta South Local Government, INEC office, at Iyana Mortuary area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital. He explained that efforts were on to reprint the cards for collection, and subsequently for voting in the elections. He urged all stakeholders to remain confident, insisting that the elections will hold, despite the attacks on some of its offices nationwide. The monarch noted that the present crop of INEC management has the credibility to succeed in the all-important assignment.
