Andy Murray’s survival instincts were pushed to their limits again on Wednesday, as he outlasted Alexander Zverev in a three-hour marathon at the Qatar Open. This three hour, two minute win over world No 16 Zverev was one of his best on paper. Zverev won the second set as Murray began to look laboured in his movements. Elsewhere, world No 1 Novak Djokovic is hopeful he will get special permission to play the ‘Sunshine Double’ in Indian Wells and Miami. I’m thankful to the Indian Wells and Miami tournament and communities for their support publicly... I’m looking forward to a positive decision coming soon, but it’s not in my hands.

A scandal-hit NHS Trust employed a midwife who had been suspended in Ghana after she was accused of dangerous behaviour. It did not name individual members of staff and there is no suggestion that Ms Stanton or Ms Major harmed patients. Ms Stanton told The Telegraph that she had “just had a blackout” because she had been going through a stressful divorce. Ms Major, who also worked for William Harvey Hospital, first worked at the East Kent Trust for almost six years to 2014. When she did, East Kent Trust dismissed her.

BBC blasted for for not screening World Cup opening ceremony

The BBC declined to air the opening ceremony of the World Cup on television on Sunday, broadcasting a monologue critical of Qatar instead.
