‘All Quiet’ named best picture at British Academy Film Awards

LONDON — Antiwar German movie “All Quiet on the Western Front” won seven prizes, including best picture, at the British Academy Film Awards on Sunday, building the somber drama’s momentum as awards season rolls toward its climax at next month’s Oscars. Its other trophies included adapted screenplay, cinematography, best score, best sound and best film not in English. Cate Blanchett won the best actress prize for orchestral drama “Tár.”Martin McDonagh’s “Banshees,” the bleakly comic story of a friendship gone sour, was named best British film. “Banshees” also won for McDonagh’s original screenplay, and awards for Kerry Condon as best supporting actress and Barry Keoghan for best supporting actor. Day care workers charged with child abuse after scaring kids with mask

The daycare’s owner, Sheila Sanders, is not facing charges. Monroe County Sheriff Kevin Crook said in a news release that four of the women each face three counts of felony child abuse. On Wednesday, at least one set of parents signed felony child abuse complaints, he said, adding a judge issued warrants Thursday for the women. Sierra McCandless, 21; Oci-Anna Kilburn, 28; Jennifer Newman, 25, and Shyenne Shelton, 28, are accused of three counts of felony child abuse, the sheriff’s statement said. It was not immediately known if any of those facing charges have attorneys who could speak on their behalf.

The hydrogen bill gifts $4 billion to the fossil fuel industry | Opinion

Without a single hearing, public discussion, or speech, the Commonwealth’s leaders are putting the final touches on nearly $4 billion in subsidies over 20 years for petrochemical companies and dirty hydrogen facilities. They claim that dirty hydrogen facilities could use carbon capture and storage technology (CCS) to reduce carbon pollution. But relying on dirty hydrogen and CCS to underpin our future economic hopes simply makes no sense. The legislature still hasn’t acted on House Bill 1565 to invest RGGI carbon auction proceeds into renewable energy, family-sustaining jobs, and communities. TeamPA, Governor Wolf, and the legislature are wrong — taking the fossil fuel playbook and slapping a dirty hydrogen or petrochemical cover on it is not a plan.

Musk ousted three top Twitter executives on Thursday, according to two people familiar with the deal who said he was in charge. Late Thursday, Musk tweeted, “the bird is freed,” a reference to Twitter’s logo. Tommy Mealy approved as ELCO athletic director marking end of an era at Bishop McDevitt

Tommy Mealy has worn many hats during his time at Bishop McDevitt. Mealy was approved Tuesday evening as the new athletic director at ELCO High School where he will take over for former District III Chairman Doug Bohannon. While Mealy has been McDevitt’s athletic director since 2005 – he’s the longest tenured AD in school history — he does have a connection to ELCO. “I am very thankful for the opportunity to serve the Bishop McDevitt administration, students, faculty, coaching staff, alumni base and community,” he said.
